[NSW] Solar Recommendations

I have been looking at quotes for solar systems for the house and have gotten a couple of system recommendations from various installers. This is where I'm stuck as I have no idea which system/brand is better, and pricing is vastly different. I am calling on the OzB brains trust for guidance.

Planning for a battery in future and EVs.

We have received the following quotes so far:

System Jinko 440W (30) Aiko 475W (28)
System Size 13.2kW 13.3kW
Panels Tiger Neo N-type 420-440W AIKO Neostar 2P 475W
Model 54HL4R-B MAH54Mw
Inverter Sungrow 10kW SG10RS-ADA Sungrow 10kW SG10RS-ADA
Smart Meter S100 S100
Total System Price $10,742.00 $11,480.00
GST Included $976.55 $1,043.64
STC Rebate $4,142.00 $4,180.00
STC Quantity 109 @ $38 110 @ $38

Panel comparison thread over on whirlpool
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9l10lvlz

I'd likely just go the cheaper jinko system assuming the extra panel space on the roof isn't an issue and quality of installer is equal.

    • Thanks for sharing! Will have a look

Installer came from solar quotes for both options so comparable I would say

  • 6.7k for a 13kw system is pretty cheap.

    How are they so low?

Usually can expect 1k per kw for a system install.

Stick with the one we've got. The Milky Way isn't so bad either.

Need Help with Picking Solar System

I’d choose our solar system personally.

The next nearest system is Proxima Centauri which is 40,208,104,508,465km away and I don’t know if there’s any habitable planets there… it would suck to go all that way for nothing

  • If you're thinking of a battery in the future, would a hybrid inverter make more sense?

    • Thanks for the recommendation! Was thinking of changing to a hybrid like a fronius primo or gen24.

Other option would be Sungrow Residential 10 Kilowatt Single Phase Hybrid Inverter (SH10RS).

      Any brand recommendations?

I have a 10.25kW system with Trina Vertex S 425w solar panels and a Fronius Hybrid Symo Gen24+ inverter. Now 7 months into using this system with a view that I will install new batteries in the next 6 months to suit our electricity consumption. Very happy with the system so far. More expensive for me than what you have been quoted, but ours is 3-phase. Plus Fronius are considered top end.

      • Just get the batteries now and be done with it.

Get an integrated package. That way if there are issues the battery guy isn't pointing the finger at the solar guy & vice-versa.

Had mine 6 weeks & already it has seamlessly powered the house through a blackout and I no longer have to think about when TOU peak period cuts in.

From my research a few years ago, the panels aren't too important but just make sure to get a good inverter. These are the things that are most likely to fail and cause a fire.
