Suggestions Regarding Kogan Vs. Ffalcon TV's

Good Afternoon Hive Mind!

Looking for a little advice regarding a new TV purchase…the other night my 50' Samsung uttered its last farewell and made it's way off of the mortal coil… Not looking to blow a heap on replacing it (it originally cost me $450 as an ex-rental and I got 12-14 years out of it)… I was going to claim it on contents insurance (accidental damage), but my excess is $700, so I figure I'd be just as well off simply picking something up for $500-600 and calling it square… Has anyone had any RECENT experience with either Kogan or Falcon TV's? Specifically:

Ffalcon 55" U64 4K UHD Google TV

Kogan 55" LED 4K Smart Roku TV - R95T

I would have liked a composite input option, but I think I'm dreaming at this price point.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers!

  • Suggestoin, is that like a bitcoin?

  • More like not wearing glasses, but thanks.

  • FFalcon, established in 2017 as a TCL Group subsidiary, focuses on global content and application development and operation for TCL smart TVs

  • +1

I’ve grabbed a couple of ffalcon models the last year or two and they’ve not missed a beat and the built in google OS has worked so well I don’t use the Apple TVs anymore

  • No idea…

Google TV interface is a plus

  • If you can stretch the budget a little further, a TCL C755 is going to be a way better TV. The low cost of budget miniled make it a worthwhile investment IMO, from either TCL or Hisense. It's a significantly better picture.

One thing to consider is software, the hardware/software in basic TVs is really, really bad. If you're going to go with Kogan you'd be better off with something like this where the hardware will at least be workable. Otherwise you'll be buying a separate dongle anyway.

But you get what you pay for. That's a $660 TV that's edge lit, no HDR, Kogan is known for its poor warranty and support (along with bad remotes on their TVs) and even their specs suggest poor colour. For not much more you can get into the budget Samsung/LG TVs that will have better processing or budget mini-LED with a much better native picture quality.

  • As much as the superfluous F in FFalcon triggers me I’d rather get that as it can be easily returned to a b&m location if needed.
