Tango Energy Not Sending Monthly Bills

Hi, just seeing if anyone else has experienced this problem with Tango energy.
I was receiving a bill monthly up until Oct 2024, I haven't had 1 since.

I have contacted them multiple times and all they can say is that my account is on hold, and it is being investigated.
There was nothing sent to me about my account going on hold & they can't tell me the reason.

It's frustrating as I know at some stage I'm going to get multiple bills come through, I changed to monthly long ago to better manage my finances.
If anyone has had a similar situation please let me know.

Do you also ask the ATO to send your tax bill earlier?

        • Of course not, wanting to avoid bill shock so monthly was good.
I can't even tell what my usage is as my account is locked.

Tango Energy Not Sending Monthly Bills

My guess is that you are being investigated.

    • I like it, funny

Maybe check you account online with Tango

    • Did that, can't even see usage as the account is on hold.

      • Check your distributor's website for usage. Calculate the price and keep it aside.

        • When I log into the site all I see is my last bill, even the usage is no longer showing.
I can see usage from my previous bill and before, nothing after Oct. I'm in the dak like a mushroom.

@noddypiper: Distributor (Jemena, SP Ausnet, etc), not retailer (Tango). You will know how much power you're using at least so you can set aside some funds for the upcoming bill shock

  • take a photo of your box, and move providers, sorted

You can still make regular payments using bpay to avoid bill shock when the bill does eventuate.

This. Just because you haven't got a bill doesn't mean you cannot make payments. I do that with my Energy Aus account, I pay the full cost before discounts, banked some good credit for the higher summer bills!

This. Just because you haven't got a bill doesn't mean you cannot make payments.

Many cases where people haven't had to pay after many months of not receiving bills.

        • Yes, potentially. But then on the flip side, they get a $1,500 bill for 6 months because of some sort of error or issue.

In VIC they can't backdate more than four months. So sit tight…

Judging by your profile you are in NSW.

Your retailer cannot make you pay if they don't send bills for nine months. More details here:

    • This is a bit of a grey area, I was never advised of anything.
No email correspondence to say my account was on hold, so I'm not sure how the 9 months would work.

"cannot bill you for usage any further than nine months prior to the date you were advised of the undercharge where it was the fault of the retailer – even if that means some of your usage won’t be billed"

Do they have online chat? Use that and keep the transcript or send an email

It comes under Backbills and catch-up bills:

"If you haven’t been billed for all of the electricity or gas you used, your retailer can send a backbill, also known as a catch-up bill. A backbill includes charges for consumption not included on past bills or not previously billed. "

        and

"Retailers can send you a backbill to recover the amount undercharged for past energy used. However they:

cannot bill you for usage any further than nine months prior to the date you were advised of the undercharge where it was the fault of the retailer – even if that means some of your usage won’t be billed
cannot charge you interest on the amount being backbilled
should explain why the amount is being backbilled and state the amount as a separate item on the bill must offer you time to pay the amount."

It doesn't sound like you have been advised of much at all, let alone being undercharged. Keep an eye on the dates.

        • Thanks for all the info

just save up the money and pay it when it finally arrives

    Just port to another provider.

  • Do they have an app? Most of my interaction with my energy supplier is via their app. It contains previous bills, usage and projected future bills. It might be that simple. Good luck

I've been getting better with finances so have a fixed amount come out of my pay every period into a separate account which then is used to pay the bills. I have taken the highest bill for any period and used that to calculate the minimum to go into that account. (Although I haven't looked at that amount in a few years so I probably should re-calculate those numbers).

This was there is always cash to pay a bill when it comes in, even if it's a big bill. That account does eventually start to build up a little because I've taken the highest bill for each, but that also means I'm generating a buffer and been able to cover other unexpected expenses from that account when they have cropped up rather than historically relying on a credit card then catching up later.

It can be hard to get started when you're starting out, but it's nice when you get there. If you started this today you'd be putting cash away for your future giant electricity bill when it eventually comes through. Bonus point is you can use the money as an offset to a home loan or to generate some interest vs having pre-paid bills and giving the provider any additional benefits.

    • Good for you mate, great job getting on top of your finances.
