Was looking for a cast iron crepe pan. Thanks OP!

  • How heavy are these? I was wondering if I could remove the wooden handle and use it as a pizza pan. Seems like a cheap alternative to pizza stones or steels.

    • Woo thanks! Grabbed some wipes and the two pans

  • Love cast iron. But need to know how to do proper maintenance on it.

after use, clean, put some mustard oil. It will not rust.

      • For me I'm not using detergent on cast iron.

        • how to clean greese otherwise?

          • @ivegan: Rinse and wipe with cleaning cloth then wash the cloth.

        • I do use detergent, and I use a blue scrubber on my cast iron, once a week or so. Seasoning is great. One thing I don't do is cool acidic foods like tomato - stainless pan for that kind of stuff.

          • @Mikeer: Yeah. I use detergent as well. Just enough to clean. The main thing is drying it and applying oil.

  • are all cast iron created equal with main differences to thickness and sizes

    • yes and no

  • Ridged pans not worth the cleaning effort.

Also defeats half the purpose if it has wooden handle.

    Just get lodge pans.

  • Not sure if cast iron needs any extra care but I got this Crepe Pan from Catch a year ago, and the bottom got rusted in few months. The top is still pretty good and using it occasionally.

Welcome to Cast Iron 101. They can all rust in hours if not seasoned…

    • Just sand or use steel wool to remove the rust and reseason. Leaving rust on exposes the iron to further oxidation…

Whats the difference between Crepe pan and Grill pan? Which one is best for steaks?

    • Crepe pan is better. Difference is ridges vs no ridges (no ridges is superior as you get more contact with the food you're cooking = more even crust/more Maillard reaction, also much easier to clean)

Only downsides would be the short sides risk oil spilling over, it might have slightly less thermal mass for keeping hot when you lay a steak on, and it's OOS

  • The Ozbargain staff seem to think that the 22cm one is in stock (it wasn't when I reported it).
