Suggestions for Discounted Gift Cards to Spend on The Samsung Website

Hello LOVELY people!

I am planning to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra through Samsung's website. Is there any way I could obtain discounted gift cards so that I could use at the Samsung's payment gateway?

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

Ask live chat for discount if you have other Samsung products somewhat recently purchased or use the Edu / Employee Partnership portal

  • Thanks:)

    This will be very tricky.

Samsung does not run a gift card program in Australia, which means discounted Samsung gift cards are not an option.

I had a look at the Samsung checkout page and saw options for “Credit Card” (covering Visa, Mastercard and American Express), Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Alipay, PayPal and a few interest-free options. Discounted prepaid Mastercard / Visa gift cards come to mind, but there are some issues:

    • Considering the cost of the item ($1299 before discounts), you are going to have a very hard time paying using a discounted prepaid gift card. It is extremely unusual to see a prepaid gift card sold in Australia sold with more than $1000 loaded onto it, and there is no way you can do split payments (not even through PayPal if you opt for Pay Now). Most prepaid gift cards you can get through a promotion max out at $250 or $500.

    • I have no idea whether Samsung accepts prepaid gift cards on their website. Prepaid gift cards do not have security features that merchants can use to verify whether the cardholder is the person initiating the transaction (i.e. 3-D Secure); for a merchant such as Samsung, they may mandate these features due to the items they sell on their website, which would render prepaid gift cards useless. Personal experience tells me that if 3-D Secure support is not mandated by Samsung, it is much more likely a prepaid Visa gift card will be rejected than a prepaid Mastercard gift card.

    • You are much more likely to see discounts on prepaid gift cards that are restricted to specific merchant categories, but Samsung uses a merchant category code (MCC 5732 - Electronic Sales) that rarely appears on such gift cards. The Category Choice Department Store gift card - and its cousin, Zip Visa Department Store gift card - officially allow transactions at MCC 5732, but you rarely see deals for those gift cards. The Special Tech Head gift card also comes to mind as a potential option (because it lists other stores using MCC 5732 as Featured Retailers, e.g. Apple, JB Hi-Fi), although I have no idea whether Samsung accepts Special Tech Head gift cards.

I guess that was a very long-winded way of saying that discounted prepaid gift cards are not really a viable option for your situation…

  • Thanks heaps for explaining this to me mate! I really appreciate it 😊

If I may ask you one more question, what's the maximum or the best price one could pay for Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra?

I see International sellers selling this product through Kogan, Catch, Dicksmith etcetera for an average price of $670. However, I am suspicious of the warranty and their services in the case of a technical issue. Therefore, I am wondering if I were to buy this product from an Australian seller, what would be the best price to pay for this watch.

Please ignore if it's out of your scope:)
