Was looking to network three rooms in addition to the study (where the modem router lives) via EOP and found the following for $221 @ Wireless1.com.au (www.wireless1.com.au/Networking-and-Wireless/Ethernet-Over-P…):
$99 - NETGEAR XAVB5004 4-port Universal Internet Adapter Kit
$112 - NETGEAR XAVB5101 Powerline Nano 500MBPS Kit
$10 - Shipping
If I've got this right, I can do the following:
Study: 1x XAV5101 from the XAVB5004 kit connected to the modem router
Lounge: 1x XAV5004 (4-port) from the XAVB5004 kit
Bedroom1: 1x XAV5101 from the XAVB5101 kit
Bedroom2: 1x XAV5101 from the XAVB5101 kit
Thoughts?
Sounds alright but just bear in mind that powerline adapters can be finicky. One house I lived in they needed to be in specific spots to work which means I had to run a long Ethernet cable as well. Saying that tho the house I'm in now they worked the first spot I plugged them in. If you have a newish house you should be fine otherwise you may have problems (older gen wiring). Also remember that they work better directly in the wall not in a power board. You can also get interference. Sometimes I get popping sounds on a couple of sound systems when there is high traffic on the network. When I unplugg the units the popping stops :/
