  • Not a bad price but cheaper at several stores here

  • CD-Key resellers are heavily frowned upon by Steam, and buying from them can (and has in the past) get people's game(s) removed or accounts banned.

Think about it. You have no idea where they get the key they're selling to you from, it might as well be stolen goods, and probably is in a lot of cases. Even if it isn't, they own the box of your game with your key in it. They can at any time dispute your ownership of a title, as they have proof that they own the CD-Key tied to your account. Even if you can wriggle out of that one, don't expect Steam to let you get away with it, because you're not supposed to be buying from them.

You have been warned. Do NOT support this shoddy industry.

EDIT: I'm aware that Far Cry 3 is a Uplay title, but I'm pretty sure ubisoft would take the same stance towards this, and it's the moral of the story that matters anyway.

  • Usually it is from buying games that are sold at a cheaper price in one country (eg. Russia, India), and then reselling the CD keys with a small markup to richer markets.

I would think that the real reason Steam frowns on it is because it eats up their bandwidth, but they don't get the profits…

Regional pricing is not the issue - the problem is that theses sites get codes from some source over the internet, and since that source is never revealed, customers run the risk of buying a key that was stolen at some point. Publishers commonly figure out which keys were stolen, and hand those lists to distributors, asking them to remove those copies of the game.

Unauthorized CDKEY resellers like this are actually banned on most major deal sites as the people that run those said bargain sites are aware of how rife fraud is in the industry. I'm surprised OzBargain still hasn't outright banned them, but considering that these people are insistently spamming the site I'm sure one isn't too far off.

It is completely legitimate, so please don't troll our post.

I purchased one key for myself and one for my friend.

Far Cry 3 uses UPlay (Ubisoft software) for online interaction. The process was pretty simple, I had to use PayPal though :( (I prefer just credit card) but luckily I remembered my password for it.

Tyrx is hardly trolling your post; his concerns are completely valid.

Nonsense, he is a complete troll who knows nothing about the industry or anything he is talking about. I haven't seen this much drivel since the treasury promised budget surplus.

I have been buying nearly all of my games through reputable key resellers like this and have never encountered any issues. They have a legitimate business to run, the keys are legit and always work.

Unlike some others I will not generalise but simply refer to my experience - I have nearly always bought games from vendors like this and will continue to do in the future.

Piracy is wrong, getting a good deal on legitimately distributed goods is not.

Why should cd key resellers be banned until they are proven to be dodgy/illegal?

A blanket ban would be unfair on all the legitimate sites out there, of which there are many.

Sure EB Games don't like CD key sites, and neither does the treasurer, but screw both of them…

And if you ban CD key sites, are you going to ban Steam?? It's just a very big CD key site…

        • steam does not sell the keys by themselves..

  • who are your distributors?
