Might be a good vacuum, just remember the $4-5 cost of bags. Adds up pretty quickly if you vacuum a lot.

    • I was told that the bags last 3 months.

For those who would rather save $28 instead of having an Australian warranty, its available from Amazon Italy for $172 delivered here - http://www.amazon.it/Miele-S381NBLM-S-381/dp/B000MQX2OS/ref=…

Nearly $100 cheaper than any other Miele cleaner I can find in Oz. Miele cleaners are consistently reported as the most reliable by Choice magazine so it's a bargain for me.

Won't be getting it though because I spent about $350 on a Bosch from Amazon Germany (699 in Hardly Normal), mainly at my wife's insistence that "vacuum cleaners for women are like cars for men.. you HAVE to have a nice one". Sometimes I'm really really happy that I married the woman I did ;-)

    • If the wife wants a good vacuum cleaner how can a husband say no

      • It's definitely cheaper than buying her a car.

      • Kaichongjee… Two words that save a lot of trouble… "yes dear". :-)

last time i went into Godfreys to get this vaccum cleaner, they keep on wanting me to get the more expensive one, telling me this $199 vaccum is small, underpowered, and useless.

    • they did the same to me too, saying the vac that I wanted to purchase was not powerful enough to clean a small apartment and would likely overheat and blow up.. then came the spiel on a vac $200 more… Never again.

      • Should ask them why they are stocking supposedly shoddy appliances…see what they have to say about that

      That sucks…

  • Is this a better cleaner than this one: http://www.eljo.com.au/miele-2200w-vacuum-cleaner-s5211-1.ht… ?

This is s5211 selling for $281 local.

s381 is the bottom of the Miele range and s5211 is this mainstream mid-range:
      http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/products/floorcare_selec…
Think Holden Barina vs Commodore. I currently have a s5211 and it's great.

      • We have one too (s5211), brilliant machine… got the power head as well. We thought we had a good vacuum cleaner before (sanyo bagless) but the Miele is a different class altogether.

        • Agreed, we have the S5311 and it's simply fantastic! I was thinking about getting the power head but given the price ($200?), I'm not sure if it's really worth it.

        • With the sucking power of the S5211 the turbo head is all you need.
Most other vacs fail with turbo heads as they lose power, not so with the Miele.

      • s381 is the bottom of the Miele range

But it's 50% off, meaning it would normally go for $400, which is more than the s5211… Are they just pulling a Shoppingsquare 80% off RRP thing but with inflated RRP?

    • Choice has the S5211 with the following details:
      Scored 81/100
      Good points:
      • Good at picking up dirt from carpet.
      • Very good at cleaning corners and along edges.
      • Excellent at removing pet hair.
      • Good range of tools with on-board storage for all of them.
      • Very good, long wand.
      • Excellent bag;easy to remove/replace.
      • Variable power.

      The s381 wasn't reviewed

      • What's the highest scoring machine with Choice?

        • My mistake the review on Choice was for the S5311 (which I have just ordered from the Good Guys for $377.

The highest mid-range models all scored 81/100 and they were Bosch Free'e Animal, Electrolux Ultra Active, Miele S5311, Miele S6320, Miele S4812.

    • I think good guys had it for around $260??
I got a white S5211 (includes turbo head) from HN and a pkt of bags for $320 all up.
