    Tip: Hotels give you these small soaps for free every day you stay

      I've never seen free shave soaps at a hotel.

    I have quite a collection of shaving soaps and the lea puck is one I wouldn't use again
    It's a pretty disappointing soap compared to what is out there and at its price point I would recommend many others.

    • yeah proraso is around this price and very solid. if you spend more you get taylor of old bond which is even better

        Proraso is great but Tabac is my favourite

          try the nivea sensitive tube if you use a brush, it's not too far off Taylors for $3 or less on special.

      • You can't compare creams and hard/triple milled soaps, very very different beasts.

        If you are looking at a hard soap, I recommend Mitchell's wool fat, haslinger or Cyril R Salter at this price point (tabac is also highly regarded but it hasn't made it into my collection yet)

        If you are using creams, go get a hard soap or even a slightly firmer soap (barrister and mann, A&E, PAA) they are considerably better than the creams - but since artisanal much more expensive

        • +1 for Mitchell's Wool Fat.

          Will have a look at your other rec's. Thanks.

        • Tabac and Mitchell Wool far are my stables though I make them into shave sticks for face lathering.

      • I haven't tried the Lea but I have found Proraso to be one of the most disappointing ones I've used. Not much lather, not much glide. Best one I have used recently is the Australian Natural Soap, but it came in a bar which doesn't work well with my apothecary mug. Oddly enough, the soap that came with the apothecary mug is the best I have ever used. No name I found at a discount store. Never found it again.

    • Interesting. I was going to pull the pin on this as I love tallow-based soaps, and I've never tried this one. I still might just to try it out. I'm currently using the Arko bowl (not stick) and it's fantastic.

      • If you want a good triple milled soap, go grab a mitchells wool fat.
        They are currently closing down so stock will be harder to get your hands on. NOTE that they changed their formula from tallow to vegetal a year or two ago but i hear that the vegetal formula is just as good (i have a bit of stock of the tallow and vegetal at home to last me a few years but havent opened the vegetal one yet).

        Haslinger i also a pretty good hard soap that i use quite a bit. And then if you want to splurge Saponificio Varesino is the bees knees.

  • I am cursed/blessed to not need soap to get a close shave, but this sounds like a pretty cool hobby (seriously).

    • Hmm.
      It can turn into a rabbit hole pretty quickly.
      I have/have had:
      * 21 different razors
      * 43 full size soaps, 40 soap samples
      * 9 shaving brushes
      * 26 different blade packs
