Oh, main site is down, Makes me wery of their warrnty.

Should be. They're based in HK and you have no recourse. ACCC is meaningless there.

            @Dyl:

            ACCC is international

No, it's not. The clue is in the 'A'. It only applies to overseas companies doing business in Australia. In this case, HK Digital is not doing business in Australia. You choose to buy off their overseas HK website.

can impose fines on international companies enforced through sanctions.

Sure, if they ever bother to do so at this small scale, but even then, they don't have to comply or acknowledge them.

I think you're taking far too much comfort in something that realistically won't ever cover you.

@Hybroid: Them just pursueing it often doesnt mean it's legal thu

            • @Hybroid: I think Dyl is pulling you leg…LOL

This was already half known, they sell them as 'refurbs' and just wipe SMART data

      • If by ‘refurb’ you mean ‘brand new’ then sure.

        • There is a 'brand new' section, but i never went near that when they sell smart reset refurbs.

          • @Dyl: Ah yep, because buying from a retailer who you know is deceiving customers with a different product makes sense.

The Shopify page has been their main site for quite a long time. It's cheaper to have a myshopify site than your own domain being wrapped around a Shopify site.

    • this. shopify link was their main site. letting their domain lapse means nothing.

    • Why woildn't you add it to the main site though?

      • That would involve having web hosting. An added cost.

        • Not if it's cnamed with lets encrypt and/or the same site

          • @Dyl: That would be a redirection to the myshopify site and the same question would be asked. Why are they paying extra for a domain + DNS to redirect?

  • Had my order for 2x14 TB exos "new" drives cancelled and refunded just 2 hours ago.

I ordered just as they went into shutdown on 31/1. I got Shopify and PayPal notifications of the refund tonight after Yankee contacted me this afternoon saying they were going to ship.

Guess they're getting shutdown, at least I'm getting a refund…

    • They have offered me a return/refund on my smart-wiped 16TB drives purchased 3 months ago. Just gonna keep em TBH, they were $260 something each. One has 3 years use the other nearly 2.

Don’t really trust their disposal methods and my data isn’t encrypted, not worth returning.

East Digital will survive. Someone will figure out how to wipe FARM values and life will go on.

    • They're claiming out of stock for that Seagate Exos 14TB "New" drive. At least they're responsive, but not very forthcoming with the Seagate SMART issue.

We have the tools now to investigate drives that have had SMART data wiped. I checked the stats of my 8x EXOS X18 drives purchased from them about a year ago.

So yeah. These drives which were all "new" had about 2 years of runtime each at time of purchase.
