In what world is paying to enter an eating competition a bargain?

    • +20

To be fair, if you manage to eat 2 or 3 Banh Mi's, then that's a bargain for $20.

Unless it's time based to eat one…..

Edit: Test your eating skills and compete against fellow banh mi enthusiasts to see who can devour the most banh mi in record time!

        • +18

what year are you in to be getting $5 good banh mi's??

          • +4

@Aequitas: I suspect he thinks he is in Ho Chi Minh City.

            • +1

              @jackspratt: Or 2005

              • @TightAl: Seeing as I could get a Cabramatta Banh Mi for $2.50 in 2015, it would have been still lower than that in 2005.

          • @Aequitas: Still a few places left in cabbra that sells $5 banh MI's and they are delicious.

      • +1

Yes it's called competitive eating, and there are time limits.
Watch the hot dog eating ones and you'll be sick haha
Bit of a disgusting activity and waste of food in general.

Joey Chestnut 10kg Japanese curry challenge will make you full watching it.

        • -1

Eating competitions are appalling examples of western? excess and privilege, esp in a world where 700M people still face hunger struggles.

          • -2

@Igaf: Correct, and over burdening the hospital system and health insurances. Super unhealthy and irresponsible.

    • +1

Agree, no clue at all why this isn't just a random forum area post.

  • +17

$20 for banh mi to eat fast is stupidity expensive. No deal

    • +1

I know a bloke that would get great value out of this

    • +4

Maybe read the detail on the link before bagging the deal.

This is for the most Banh Mi, not a single item in the quickest time.

Yet the +'s still come…… Herd mentality. Come on OzB peeps, you're better than that.

      😁

Dont be a Karen, was edited after making comment.

Had little to no info and was suggesting it was singular before edit…

        • +2

Yep I edited after making a comment.

Why was that…… Because I actually clicked on the OP's link to read more about the offer. The detail I added enhanced what I thought could be the case.

So edited based on fact, rather than blowing hot air.

Username checks out at least Frank.

    death inducing*

  • +2

this is not Bánh Mì, it's like subways

    • banh mi is literally the Vietnamese word for 'bread' so technically its not wrong.

      • -2

        McDonald’s is technical a hamburger.

    • It's actually Banh Mi Thit etc.
      Bread Meat.

  • +3

Bunch of grumpy commenters with small stomachs lol
If you can manage to eat 4 bahn mi in time then that's $5 a piece and a legitimate bargain.
There are plenty of garbage guts on here like myself that could manage it i'm sure.

    • +2

Go to Sydney Cabramatta, they like 5-7$ each anyways :3, unless you can eat 5, then it's a deal haha

  • +4

LOL more like an Italian Bahn Mi, why did they use that picture lol. https://i.ibb.co/DPn0BXPb/image.png

  • +1

My mouth is already all cut up just think about all that crunchy bread.

  • I wonder what the time limit is? If it's 10 mins, and you eat 2-3, that isn't a bad deal - something to tell the grandkids!

    • Yes it seems like the time limit is some very critical missing information here. If it's 10 minutes, I reckon 3 would be doable, but not really a 'deal' based on what I recall banh mi's costing around that area.

  • -1

Is there anyone here who is an ex competition eater?

  • +1

Love that they've clearly re-used the same form as a previous year. The T&C mentions a "pho eating competition"

Gonna be rough out tomorrow, it'll be almost 40c. If you can get two and bit BM down you've come out ahead I reckon.

  • +7

It'll be funny if Ozbargainers bought all 24 tickets, and then on the day just ate the banh mi at a leisurely pace.

  • Do they deliver?

  • -1

Bad news for anyone turning up at Nicholason St and looking to enter.

  • You guys are good. Seen a few comments on 3, 4, 5 and so on.

    2 will do for me.

Not enough prep time for me.

    Good luck to those entering.

Mi the odds always be in your flavour.

  • It’s sold out

  • +1

This is only a deal if three or less people enter.

  • -1

$20 is more than the cost of what everybody will actually eat. This is not a bargain just trashy marketing

    • -1

Pretty wasteful the whole setup of these, they should have to pay more if can't finish.

  • A $20 entry for an eating competition is not a bargain and should be moved to forums

    • How much is one bahn mi normally vs all you can eat?

I don't agree with over-eating and waste, it's probably better value if anything. Otherwise who should pay for it?

      • -1

A big fat banh mi is 10-12. In the good old days it was 7-8

        • Yes so if you ate two you'd be ahead.

They were good back when it was cheaper, in the Asian suburbs.

  • So… Who won?

    • The store.
