[NSW] 50% off All Food Items @ Daiso, Marrickville Metro

270

This is my nearest Daiso store in Marrickville Metro, NSW. I am not exactly sure which other Daiso stores are also closing down. But I was told there will still be Daiso stores in Sydney. Hence, some are closing down while others will continue to operate. So, I am thinking they are just clearing the food range for stores closing by offering 50% discount.

Most of the food items are snacks, chocolates, candy, confectionery etc…

But there are also miso, kewpie, curry, ramen, etc..

    Parramatta got renovated recently, so I’d rule that out as one that is closing (to save people checking)

    and Top Ryde just opened, although not the greatest position off the food court…

    Newcastle Charlestown one closed soon after having a 50% off food items sale late last year

  • Charlestown had 50 % off storewide couple of days before it closed on 14/1

    Genuine question - do people really feel that Daiso's products in Australia are cheap?
    I mean, they cost triple what they cost in Japan ($3.30 vs ¥110), even though the exchange rate is nearly $1 = ¥100 and GST is the same in both countries (10%).

    I got excited when Daiso first arrived in Australia and thought there would probably be some level of Australia tax in there – maybe a 50% increase – but was floored when they said all the ¥100 items would be $2.80. It wasn't long before they went up to $3.30. Sure, they've got unique and cute stuff, but Kmart's stuff is typically cheaper these days and there's a lot of variety at Kmart to choose from too, not to mention everything comes from China at both stores anyway…

      I've been wondering this too. One just opened on the Sunshine Coast and I was looking at some items thinking, the Reject Shop downstairs would be cheaper for a lot of this stuff. Still grabbed some origami paper.

    Used to be a big fan of Diaso in Singapore as EVERYTHING was $2 and it used to be my favourite store. Then they changed and added 9% GST making all items $2.19 which wasn't too bad, but then they changed to variable/layered pricing which basically made it just like any dollar store in Australia. And when they came over to Australia they adopted the same variable/layered model and the base price was 3.80 ruined the value propositions.

  • Macquarie Centre has a store;
    i find the discounted food is more for best before/soon expiring foods.
    but if Marrickville store is closing, interesting that they arent transferring stock
