It's like cheering for a douche over a shit sandwich with this one. Can we all vote for both of them to lose?

Cool, but i just noticed its free to air on 7Mate and 7Plus

        • +4

Yep, 7 is pretty good if you don't want the US broadcast with original ads

          • @Paul B: thanks for saving me 1 bucks !!!!

          • +4

@Paul B: Paying money so you can view advertising sounds about the least Ozbargain thing anyone could do.

            • @Ham Dragon: Well yeah there are some other shows, highlights and replays on DAZN. The normal commercials they have for pharma are very weird

        • Game has been for last few years.

          • @Igaf: Just started getting into it, not bad but long

            • @BatmanAU: I'm not into it, occasionally watch bits of Superbowl when I get the chance.

LVIX? That Roman numeral makes no sense, surely it's meant to be LIX if this is the 59th Superbowl.

How much do I need to pay to get to watch the Super Bowl without any Taylor Swift references?

    • +1

      $1b

    • +2

FREE. just turn off your TV

    • Tape and fast forward.

    • +2

I swear last year was a Swift show with Super Bowl references

      • The NFL is about making money. The biggest star in the world appearing for nothing. Not surprising they show her.

  • Do you get the same commentators on this and 7Mate?

    • +4

Pretty sure, but could be wrong. I think this 99 cents is to see the commercials and maybe the pregame and postgame show and all that.

The US commentators from the FOX network are Kevin Burkhardt (play-by-play) and Tom Brady (analysis). In fairness, this is Brady's first year as a commentator, but he's simply not that good. His name got him to this gig, and the better FOX guy (Greg Olsen) was demoted so Tom could be in the spotlight. Neither of them are even close to Tony Romo or Chris Collinsworth in the analysis gig, but their networks don't have the Superbowl this year (it rotates).

      • Americans get really worked up about the commentators but none of them bother me. Compared to all the Aussie footy commentators who all sound like they are graduates of the Ray Warren school of high decibel ranting they are inoffensive. I guess the stop/start nature of the game doesn't allow them to build up a head of steam like our footy codes do.

      • +4

Why the F would you pay money to see the commercials when they're available on Youtube immediately afterwards?

      • +1

I'd take the worst commentators over the cuts to Tay Tay every time Travis Kelce moves.

        • +1

          The commercials were more entertaining.

        • It's going to be bad. Real bad. They didn't show her that much in the semifinal last weekend, but that's in part to Kelce not getting a lot of catches. The Superbowl is a different beast though as many non-gridiron fans watch the game too, and some of them are Tay Tay fans.

      • +1

Jameis Winston has been signed as a "digital correspondant" for the Super Bowl

I'd pay 99c just for some of his commentary

Where can I watch the Super Bowl?

The Seven Network will broadcast the game live to Australian audiences on free-to-air TV.

For those wanting to watch it remotely, it will also be available on Seven's streaming platform 7plus as well as KAYO and Foxtel.

    • It's also available on Fetch TV, with the Vibe Pack (which includes ESPN). Having said that ESPN Australia/NZ have their own commentary team, not the Fox commentary.

  • Has anyone who has used this service comment on the quality of the stream?
The 99 cent one mentions 1080p (Full HD) vs the $4.99 one has "stunning picture quality with HDR"

Any thoughts how the quality will be vs FTA on 7 or 7plus?

    • +2

I used the 99c one last year and quality was decent, was worth it for the ads/same coverage that everyone is talking about online. but if you are just watching it for the score then channel 7 is fine.

      • Thanks - looks like Tubi have it for free this year but you will need a VPN/DNS service which I assume you don't need with DAZN?

        • +1

yeah DAZN was easy to use with chromecast on my TV

    American "football" lol

  • -4

We tape and watch afterwards. Allows you to fast forward through the boring bits. All the intro bits are particularly tedious.

Go Chiefs. I’m a quarterback groupie and picked up the Chiefs when Joe Montana moved from San Francisco to the Chiefs. Also Mahomes is a freak; he won a Super Bowl with only one good leg.

To be fair I have a few teams I follow because they have/had exceptional quarterbacks.

  • +5

$4.99 might be good to watch hard knocks afterwards

Chiefs remind me of the Melbourne Storm - they skirt the rule book, flop and cry for penalties

  • Is this the "official" broadcast though that the Americans would watch, with the same ads in the same slots? I don't know if they have multiple broadcasters covering it in the US, like footy here with FTA and Fox Footy.

For someone who only really cares about understanding the inevitable memes and the ads (for which order is usually important for "watch along" threads), this is important lol.

    • DAZN take the NFL Network feed, as they have done all season. This will be the same as Fox (US) coverage, except for the few occasions when Fox break out to their local station.

  • FlyEaglesFly - also, it's free on 7mate

    • -1

Do you have a source for this? In previous years, it's been on Seven (except Western Australia until 9am AWST) - https://tvtonight.com.au/2024/02/airdate-super-bowl-lviii.ht…

"The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are back on the biggest stage of all as Super Bowl LVIII arrives on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus on Monday, February 12."

  • How good is the quality on DAZN!
I don't think I've seen better, not even Kayo 4k.

  • I started it on 7Plus and it looks like trash as usual.
Easy $1 to spend for better quality.

I decided to spend the $4.99 to get HDR as it does always look a million times better with sports.
Apparently DAZN HDR is not 4K, but 1080P.

FYI, their HDR is done via HLG, so it wouldn’t work on my Nvidia Shield. Downloaded the app on my LG OLED and it worked perfectly. After a few seconds for the buffering to catch up it looks great.
