    Thanks OP. I’ve got one.

Sounds like a good price, but genuinely curious as to what makes this better than their $40 cordless 18v Ozito angle grinder?

    I mean, it’s just a spinning disc, isn’t it?

    • +7

      Nothing that matters.
Ergonomics, vibration, noise, startup, brake bla bla bla.
Why are you comparing a battery powered tool to a mains powered tool? Genuinely curious

      • +3

In an attempt to better understand the fundamental enhancements.

        Apologies…

        • -2

Think vacuum cleaners. There are people that use battery powered Dysons, and people who use corded cleaners with bags- superficially simiar machines that 'just suck air' but in reality quite different use cases.

The ozito grinder that you link below even has the description in the post of "don't try use it to cut anything"

    • +1

Link to the $40 Ozito cordless angle grinder please.

    • +3

but genuinely curious as to what makes this better than their $40 cordless 18v Ozito angle grinder?

For one, it doesn't run out of battery.

    • 6 (!) year warranty. Totally different class of tool

      • +1

Ryobi now offer a 6y warranty on their power tools (3Y on the battery itself). 🤷🏾

        • +1

Ryobi is likely banking on their customers using the tools once in a blue moon, versus on a daily basis for Metabo. Someone whose income depends on a tool isn't going to want to waste time with repeated returns.

    • +9

Metabo is a serious brand that makes trade quality tools. Ozito is fine, but it's not trade quality. People get around it by leveraging bunnings decent warranty terms, but these tools will be chalk and cheese used on a daily cycle.

On a side note, I have a cordless 18v grinder and in my case (not an ozito but an autobarn one that's compatible with Aldi batteries) it's decent for cutting steel pipe and other short jobs, but if I had to cut or grind concrete with it you can forget about it, it goes through batteries in 10min cutting down a cenened in hills hoist, so it wouldn't cut a groove more than a few cm long in concrete. Also the cheaper battery ones are 110 or 115mm discs, I assume this is a 125 (although I haven't checked)

Edit: seems to be only 100mm, so while an OK deal you might want to consider a bigger one

      • Many thanks.

      • Agree with this comment, Metabo brand is highly rated IMO. have used mine for grinding a fair bit of concrete too.

      • +1

Yeah, this one is disappointingly 100mm. I've found that even going up to 125 there's a oversized difference in usefulness, even for cutting fairly thin materials.

If it was 125mm for slightly more cash I would have gotten one (as a third grinder) without hesitation.

        • +1

Not to mention the range in discs and the cheaper prices for bigger discs makes them much more economical if you go through them

          • @Jackson: yeah ive got the ozito 115mm one and end up buying most of my discs on amazon. way less options

      • +2

I've got the 125mm Hikoki cordless angle grinder and it's gotten me through a front yard reno last year cutting limestone blocks and a kitchen reno this month cutting through concrete slab. Very impressed with the build quality, ergonomics and power it delivers. The 5Ah battery lasted around 30-40mins of consistent cutting

    • +1

I’ve got both, the Ozito is a toy compared to the Metabo. The Ozito is fine for light duty grinding etc but cutting is a struggle and also dangerous with the lack of power. The metabo is a nice unit. I highly recommend it. I got one price beaten about 12 months ago for $98.

Edit- I have the Metabo W850. I presume the W750 will be just as fit for purpose.

if you asking such a question, yep it doesnt matter, to you.

  • +1

Thats a great price for the Hikoki saw kit.

    Saw link is dead

  • -3

Is this angle grinder much better than the $40 Ozito 850w one?

    • I think you already know the answer to that. Just get it already

  • damn it disappeared from my cart!

    • Try the bunnings app. I can see it still available.

  • I've got the metabo and paid way more. Still going strong.

  • I've used others, but I only own one angle grinder and it's a previous version of this one, Metabo, 100mm, corded which I received used. It is excellent, been going strong for close to 15 years now for me with not frequent but, regular use over the years, even used it for renovations, I used it today for grinding down concrete.

The only issue I have sometimes is the disc size, 100mm is on the small side for some jobs, but it does get into smaller areas as well.

It is a steal at this price, I'm thinking of buying another (since I lost the screw-in handle for mine).

  • +1

    thanks got one pending c+c

  • $46.55 on Trade

  • Likely a chinesem Metabo at this price (will have details of country of manufacture on the box and on the silver sticker on the tool) ,
so make sure you register it online to get your 6years warranty as this is not the metabo of olde.
But for $46-49 they are making them to a minimum standard, probsnot worth buying in bulk for a engineering factory but for your everyday backyard mechanic they would likely be fine and I can recommend small grinders for working above your head or under a trailer say , much safer if they dont have the ability to take your shirt off and keep chugging along instead of binding up.
Tempting ,but do I need an eighth grinder or ninth as well mmmm.

I am planning to fix the concrete crack. Would this $129 ozito 125mm cordless angle grinder do the job to cut through cracks or recommend this Metabo 750w grinder?

    • +2

Metabo if you're going to use it every day for a trade, the ozito corded grinder is fine and powerful enough for the same job, it's just not as durable or comfortable to use, which doesn't really matter for quick one off jobs.

  • +1

This is 100mm (disc) grinder!, not the more common 125mm.
    Just bare in mind.

  • +1

I have Metabo tools and they're great, but in the trades Metabo are particularly known for their angle grinders. You'll find a lot more Metabo stuff in a metal shop than anywhere else.

However, given I have 2 Metabo cordless grinders, an AEG corded grinder and a couple of other cheap ones, can't really justify buying this!

    • +1

there is no such thing as too many grinders 🦾

  • +2

Just on the 100mm-125mm debate. There is a good use case for having a 100mm esp. if you are useing a sanding pad. For sanding weatherboards, 100mm is so much more manouvreable, flexible, lighter, and useable for a longer period of time. Plus easier to use on the 'under' sections of the boards. Plus lower power better on power bill as sanding takes a lot of time. Another reason to go corded. Although I do use cordless for sanding in hard to reach/tricky spots or for quick touch ups. I have a Bosch 100mm which was about $65 from memoryso $49 is a great price.

If anyone is wondering Metabo is a good brand

  • +1

Many years ago a disk shattered and a piece flew right in front of my face. Decided to never use angle grinder again. This thing scares the shit out of me.

    • Which is why

      1) there is a guard on the grinder and
      2) anyone with half a brain wears eye protection.

      • But if they only have half a brain left they probably weren't using very good eye protection…

      • Still scary mate. Could have made stuck me anywhere. Check out some angle grinder accidents online. I’m pretty handy with tools and have done a lot of DIYs like building a shed, electrical etc. it’s just the angle grinder I don’t like

        • Fair call … you do need to respect it more than most tools. Nobody plans to have an accident.

  • +1

Great bit of kit. Pinched my neighbour's e-bike just the other night thanks to it. Steel core lock my ass.

  • Picked up my order this morning and can confirm it’s Chinese made Metabo.

  • I was about to pull the trigger on this, until i looked up cutting disc options on Amazon. There isnt a lot available of decent quality/price. Amazon sell a Bosch 125mm unit for $69 with free delivery, and the 125mm discs are a much more universally available size.

    • Yeah, Bosch is what our factory used. That's what I'd recommend.
This is out of stock now anyway.

There's some fantastic hokioki deals in Bunnings currently…
