After Interior Design Advice – Small Open-Plan Space

Hey everyone,

I recently moved into a new place and could use some help with furnishing my open-plan living and dining area (under 60sqm). I’m 30 and honestly not great at figuring out what works together… colours, furniture styles, layouts, all that.

I like the idea of getting an interior designer’s input, but I’m not looking for a full-service package where they handle everything. I just need guidance on what to buy and how to arrange things so I don’t end up regretting my choices.

Any recommendations for:

  • Interior designers or consultants in Sydney who offer advice without pushing full furnishing services?
  • Online or in-person services that focus on guidance rather than full-scale design?
  • Budget-friendly stores or resources that provide design help?

Would really appreciate any tips… thanks in advance!

  • Ikea offer an interior design service https://www.ikea.com/au/en/customer-service/services/interio…

Obviously they will plan it out with Ikea furnishings but you could always substitute their ideas with products from another company.

Similarly Dulux have a Colour Design Service https://www.dulux.com.au/services/colour-design-service/over… which could help tie everything together

  • Couple of years ago I had Freedom Furniture come and do an in house consult that was free. Of course they do recommend all their furniture, but they did provide mockup/printouts as to their recommendations which we followed, but did not purchase from (i do recall them offering a discount if you bought it through them)

There's also a few subreddits where you can upload your floorplan and people make suggestions

  • George Clarke's Amazing Spaces.

  • Some awesome recommendations! Thanks guys!! The Freedom route costs $150 now (redeemable when you spend $3k with them). Could be worth it though.

  • Also Ikeas prices vary from $29 to $399 (and none of them offer in home consultation, it's all virtual!
