I've owned 3 of these. There are a lot of negative reviews saying "Lines don’t reach. They don’t stay connected." These complaints are 100% correct. On all three of mine I've had to fix them, but this was easily done with pliers. After that, they've been great. Much better than smaller clothes horses and as good as $200+ equivalents.

Even if you're not able to fix the existing wires, at $35 this frame is still a great deal - just go buy $13 of clothesline cable from Bunnings and replace the cable that comes with the frame.

This Sun King Portable Clothesline is a convenient way to dry your clothes when there isn't a clothesline available. It has 20 metres of line space, providing plenty of room for your laundry. It's quick and easy to assemble, with a durable and sturdy powder-coated steel frame. This portable clothesline is ideal for camping, outdoor events and even at home in your backyard.

Product Features:

  • 20m of Drying Space
  • Folds flat for easy storage
  • Powdercoated steel frame
  • 1 Year Warranty
  • Open dimensions: 176(D) x 81(W) x 130cm(H)

If you've had 3 of them how long do they last on average?

    • +3

They're all still good, ex-girlfriend has the one we bought years ago, gifted one to a friend when I went travelling for several months about a year ago Bought another recently. They're all great, no rust or anything.

  • +2

I am really confused, are you trying to promote an inferior product as a bargain?

    • +5

The inferior part is the cabling. The frame is fine. This was $60 before. It's now $35. If you can't fix the cabling that comes with it, a replacement is $13.

      35+13 = $48.

So even if you need to buy a part to fix it, you still save $10 over what it originally costs, and it's $150 cheaper than the nearest equivalent from Bunnings.

  • +4

I'm confused. What's wrong with the Kmart cheapies? Or spend $4 more and get one with wheels and can hold much more and doesn't need fixes?

    • +3

This is much sturdier and is big enough to hold bed sheets.

These Sun Kings are what I use in the back yard when the rental doesn't come with a clothesline.

The one you linked would be good for inside an apartment and clothes. I have a similar one, never use it.

jokes on you I already got the chin up station

  • The legs don't look very sturdy to be honest

    • +1

Far sturdier than a small clothes horse. Unlike the Hills brand, you can chuck something on the base of these to really weigh it down if it's a very windy day.

  • +2

Thanks OP bought for pick up. Have sand bags to weigh down so this seems like a very good price for something comparable to $200 clotheslines (have been monitoring Hills and Peggs). Size seems comparable allowing for bed sheets and towels.

Not sure how wide the gaps are between the lines but will probably drill and run new lines if too close together to allow better air flow.

    • +1

Looking at the specs and pictures, it is 81 cm wide, and there are 10 gaps, so around 8 cm per gap which works ok.

Can always drill ho;es to alter, or just skip a line for thicker items.

  • I am currently travelling and won't be back at base till half Feb. Anyone know how long Big W would hold something

    that is paid for C & C ?

Edit: Read under T & C they state 10 days, so will have to ring up store directly to ask for extension.

If you're on the Southern Gold Coast I can grab one for you and you can swing by whenever you're ready.

      • +1

Thanks for offer. Called store and they can hold longer after I call back after order confirmation.

Thought you were around Sydney? I am currently in Sawtell Coast and not returning to SEQ

        for two weeks.

        • +2

I'm originally from Sydney but have lived mostly on the Gold Coast for nearing a decade 🥳

I've been here long enough to complain about other people moving here from Sydney, but not so long that I've swapped teams in State of Origin 😂

I travel up and down very frequently as most of my family + customers are NSW Central to South Coast, hence I've given one of these clothesline away before when I had to spend several months down south.

I have this drying rack and it is the best one i have owned. I tried miltiple ones from bunnings, bigw and kmart and this one is the stirdiest and most versailte one yet. It was so good i bought a few for the family who had old wire ones.

    • "Best clothes airer
Love this item. Very convenient/ durable for what it's purpose/ great value and good quality. I've bought a few for myself and family."

Is that you, Mandie T ???

    • We've had this for 3 years or so, the trusses holding up the sides have popped out from the bottom. There is a bit of fiddling to do to set this right each time, but has held for longer than I thought.
Was hoping this deal is a better product?

      • +2

@deebee8's rack looks good for clothes or smaller spaces. I like the top hanging bar for shirts.

The Sun King is bigger and a bit sturdier. It isn't fiddly, except fixing the wires once-off (even then, not that difficult). Put a sand bag on the base and it'll never blow away outside.

It's also big enough that it's able to take a bed sheet. I'm not sure how you'd fit a bed sheet on that smaller one with having it folded over itself.

        • Thanks OP, got a Sun King for C & C in a few weeks time.

  • Thanks OP. Got one. Is the bunnings clothesline wire one you'd recommend or is it just the cheapest available right now

    • +5

I've used that clothesline cable before when I made a clothesline between my balcony posts and it was perfectly fine.

I haven't actually resorted to buying replacement cable for these Sun Kings yet as I've always been able to get them solid with just some pliers (bend the cable at the end so it holds in place) and elbow grease.

If that didn't work then yeah, I'd expect that Bunnings cable should work just fine. Can't see why it wouldn't.

Part of the trick is to start with the furthest out cable from each side on first and leave them loose. Then, work your way inwards, alternating sides, leaving them all loose.

If I get time this afternoon then I'll make a YouTube video.

Truly a goated ozbargainer if you do end up making the video haha. Thanks for the reply.
