Where Can I Sell a Desktop Computer (Monitor Included)

Need my desktop gone as I'll be moving overseas this year.

It's a 2yo (but latest back then) desktop. Here are the details:

  1. Intel Core i5-12600K LGA 1700 CPU

  2. MSI MAG B660M MORTAR WIFI DDR4 LGA 1700 mATX Motherboard

  3. Crucial Ballistix RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MHz CL16 RGB LED DDR4 Desktop RAM Memory Kit

  4. Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 V2 850W 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular Power Supply

  5. Cooler Master Master Liquid ML240L V2 RGB 240mm RGB LED Liquid CPU Cooler

  6. Dell S3221QS Monitor 4k 34" curved display with gas strut monitor arm

  7. Logitech MX Master 3 mouse and MX Keys keyboard combo as well (optional)

Questions:

  1. What should I be asking for this setup?
  2. Is FB Marketplace trustable? If so, should it be cash only?
  3. Are there any websites/services that do buybacks (Sydney region)?

    1. half of what you paid 2 years ago, and at least 50% i reckon.

    2. yes, but expect lowballers, scammers, tire kickers and more first, and yes cash only. I normally like to show electronic items in proven working order prior to transaction, but letting randos into your house is a big no-no these days imo - though if you're moving overseas maybe it doesnt matter.

Last year I was selling my gimbal and some "lady" from QLD wanted to buy it. She said she'll send me a AusPost QR code for payment. Turned out to be a scam (url was dodgy!)

      • +3

        at least u realised lol

        • +2

I always scan QR codes with another sort of "dumb" smartphone with no GPay/Cards to it. But before opening, Chrome gave an alert ;)

      • +4

Tell her you own a Nokia 3610. I like stringing scammers along.
Waste their time, so they don't scam someone else.

        • +1

haha, I'll note this for next time

      = tautology

Marketplace or Gumtree, Cash Only and Pickup at a camera location like a Police Station

Your setup is pretty decent and very similar to what I am running. All up, I would probably pay $1,500 ish including Monitor and Keyboard stuff.

Could ask $1,700 and take $1,500.

    • +2

Yeah, thanks for gumtree. I wanted to keep this one for a long time. Was going to buy the 50xx series card and start gaming this year but, life happens :)

      • +2

Personally I would go Gumtree. I use that the mostly, I am not even on Facebook but my wife has bought stuff off there.

        50xx series card

        jensen huang

damn u know times are tough when nvidia ceo gotta pay for own gpu :')

        • hahaha I literally changed to this username this year! timing!!

        • +2

Should of purchased them last week before he took the hit to his wallet!

    • +11

OP should sell to this guy, it will be your greatest sale ever.

All of those parts are barely over $1000 brand new and have no GPU

      • Yep. Lucky to get $500 for the PC and $200 for monitor. If that even. Not sure there’s much demand for a 2 year old 12600K.

      • +2

        No storage either.

When there's an 8700F with more RAM and 1TB storage on the front page for $770, there's no way I'd pay more than $400 for this. It's a nice cooler and PSU and all but on the 12600K it's pretty overkill.

        • The intention was to keep this for a looong time. Buy a motherboard and CPU down the line. PSU and Coolers don't necessarily need to be replaced ever so often.

    • "All up, I would probably pay $1,500 ish including Monitor and Keyboard stuff."
      SOLD

If you’re a member of OCAU, can sell there

    • thanks, will check it out :)

      • +3

There is a waiting period to sell if you're not a member already.

It's a 2yo (but latest back then) desktop.

That's a bit of a stretch, 13th gen stuff was out more than 2 years ago.

You might want to include the details on the case as well, someone who knows their parts might be interested if it's in a really nice case and ready to go. If it's in a bargain basement one, you'll have a harder time getting value back from it.

  • +2

I think realistically you'll get $900 for the lot on fbm if you are lucky.

99% of the market is for gaming PCs

You're saying I should put a 4060 in this, enjoy for a few weeks and sell it as is?
How much would people pay for that setup? Keeping in mind - 4060 is $401 on the front page.

  • Where Can I Sell a Desktop Computer

    OzBargain.

Selling a PC second hand is painful. I tried briefly, and then tore it down and sold it for parts on eBay. So many dumb enquiries, and I didn’t want to end up as tech support when the buyers kid can’t redeem their robux.

    • I'm considering this option as well, just the CPU+Motherboard combo would be hard to sell if the PSU gets sold first lol

  • +4

500 for the pc, or 600 including the monitor
Remove and keep the hard drive. Selling second hand pcs are not very popular. Give it a dust so when the person sees it they. Nobody buys second hand pc

Brand new == can purchase EXACT setup for $1100-$1200.

So used VIA FB … You'd only be taking advantage of ppl - if you tried asking even $1500.

Saying that though - start high … But be prepared to take lower offers …esp as you are moving +++ need it gone ASAP.

Sadly … Computers never hold their value.
It'salways a loss for the end consumers.

+++ those that try to build to "future proof" - never understand either - until they try to onsell afew years down the track (a story for another day).

    • -2

Don't worry - I'm not asking for $1500 for this, no way.
But I doubt it can be done for $1200 brand new
      Monitor alone would be $400+
      MX Keys + MX Master 3 = $250+

  • +1

Genuine lowballer buyer here…..I will take it ALL for $399 if it’s in nice working order. I don’t think I need a PC though.

Edit: damn it…. $350 now since I have to drive from bne to syd to pick it up .

  • Make sure you state weather or not the PC is or has ever been located in a home with people who smoke. If a non smoker buys it they will instantly notice the reek when they first turn it on.

I loaned a PC to a family member, a few months later I was handed back a stench machine.

    • +1

Non-smoker house, kept in the same location on a wooden desk.

  • It'll be a hard sell if not priced right as there's no sales point or reason to buy this unless the price is right. You are better off parting it out, as it would be easier to sell than a half-built gaming PC.

    1. $~350 for the PC without knowing what case it is in, ~$300 for the monitor arm combo and maybe $~120 on mx combo if you're lucky. Thats my guess but you can always go to ebay and look up sold prices and take 20% off the average sale price due to fees etc.
    2. Yeah, pick up cash only or payid on the spot (have them send a few cents as a test before the meetup)
    3. Not exactly but you can try your luck at cash converters/pawn shops. You can also part out your PC and sell everything you listed in the post at au.webuy.com (Cex) except the motherboard and power supply.

I'll take it off your hands for a good price of 24 chicken McNuggets and a large frozen Coke.

    • Haha for that price I'd pack it in my suitcase and take it with me :P

      • Fair enough, it was worth a try. glws, you're gonna need it :)
