If you have a family member who has the Amex Qantas Ultimate, thats a pretty solid 160k QFF points

    • Interesting - as in the 40k points is to the referrer not the referee, got it. It looks like on the ozbargain deal one benefit to the referee is it may only need $3k of spend in the 3 months rather than $5k (unless the text on the referral benefits is outdated).

      Thanks for calling this out.

      • Disregard - looks like it’s still $5k spend required. But as you said - good option for the referrer getting 40k points.

    • 160k!? How did you get this?

I’ve got the Qantas Ultimate and want to refer my partner to get one.

      • I think its as follows:
        + 100k sign up
        + 40k to referrer
        + 20k with this deal

        • Ahh okay, so 120k to person who signs up and 40k to referrer?

          • @JoKing: Yes and you can get your family member to swindle the 40k points back to you

    • Anyone know what the referral bonus is for the base tier of Amex Qantas Discovery card?

Qantas award seat availability is trash, don't know why anyone bothers with QFF over VFF.

    • Different routes available

      • +12

Routes that rarely have availability. I've been able to redeem 8 VFF award seats over the past year and zero with QFF.

        • Oh wow, rip. I will still try though

        • +5

Been able to redeem tickets in QFF in recent years, all departure time were 1 week before school holidays
2023: 3 x economy return tickets MEL to Singapore
2023: 4 x economy return tickets MEL to Tokyo
2024: 4 x economy return tickets MEL to Bali (Jetstar)
2025: 4 x economy return tickets MEL to Bali (Jetstar)

You just have to knew how to search and be flexible with your dates. I’ve redeemed using classic rewards, 2 first class tickets to Japan, 2 business class tickets to Hong Kong , 2 economy class tickets to Perth, 2 economy class tickets to Bali in 2024 all on QFF.

          • @illusion99: Yes, the key is to be flexible. My travel plan has followed the availability of the ticket.

          • +2

@illusion99: How much were the economy class tix to Bali? Once you pay the taxes plus points, surely you are always better off just paying for a Jetstat flight on sale? Seems like a weird points redemption to me.

@HappyPants: For my example (Mel to Bali Jetstar in 2025 September)

              2 adults + 2 kids

Classic rewards ticket (included 30kg check in luggage) : 144000 QFF points + $763 tax

Purchase tickets (starter + 20kg check in luggage) : $2850 [or $2766 for Club Jetstar price]

              ======
              Classic rewards ticket cost breakdown

              • QFF points for 1 person return ticket 36000 points
              • Tax per return ticket: $266 / adult and $155.5 / kids
    • Not quite, was able to secure for a family of 4 between Melbourne and New York return departing London in Business with JAL in December this year.

I've used QFF for years, based in Hobart.
Lots more routes that Virgin from here and based on a quick check of my history, I book about 6 domestic trips a year.
Availability is good and the only thing I really need to consider is the time of day that I go so I can catch those 6400 points / $37 flights to Melbourne.
I've also flown to Japand and the UK in the school holidays with QFF points in the last few years.

Ummm not the worst for me, I was able to book a Fiji trip for my wife and I over Easter/ Anzac using car and home insurance and just booked a flight for mum from India without any issues, it’s in economy though.

Don't fully agree - had some random time off pop up yesterday, so bought last minute tickets to the second test in Sri Lanka. Managed to score an economy seat over, and Business on the way back, both direct of SL Airways.
Sure beats playing approx $4000 for return economy seats (which I never would have done)

You will have an absolute blast!

    • Booked last August for Nov travel
      Mel - LA premium,
      LA - San Ant/ Nashville - NY/ NY - LA all business
Then upgraded Econ reward to business day before LA-Melb

Just sent the family to brisbane last weekend too…

Saved a sht tonne using QF points

Are they trying to get new customers after nerfing existing holder points by 20%?

    • +8

The classic irony of "loyalty" programs giving promos only to new customers not existing ones.

  • I just signed up (and got approved) for an Amex qantas ultimate card yesterday .. is there any chance I can add this deal?

    • You have nothing to lose imo.

    • Yes because Amex won’t transfer your points until first statement close

    • Just activate ASAP and hope for the best! Should be ok I think.

    • Yes should be fine. Don't spend until after you sign up for qantas deal. It tracks from date the points hit your qantas account

    • got approved for ANZ black last friday, havent received the card yet. Hopefully I can get this bonus points

  • Just activated the offer. Do I have to apply the card and get it approved before the offer ends (2-Feb-25)?

    • +1

Qantas Points earned from the member’s first purchase must be credited to their Qantas Frequent Flyer or Qantas Business Rewards account by 2 May 2025. Qantas Points are taken to be credited on the date they appear in the Qantas Frequent Flyer or Qantas Business Rewards activity statement which can be checked online at qantas.com/myaccount.

Worth about 16k points since the recent devaluation unless you use them before August……

    • depends on the route

  • Signed up start of October last year and activated this same deal then. Have not received the 20,000 bonus points…

    • up to 12 weeks since points from your first purchase credited to QFF account?

      • Over 12 weeks. Oct 9th first purchase.

Sorry, you're not eligible for this offer

  • I got this 20k points on the earlier program in Nov. They usually credit you the points about 1-2 months after you first get points earned by your credit card issued to your qantas account. It's quite easy!

Be aware if you try to chase this with their customer support you might get no where, I tried and they had no idea about this program and it was really frustrating.

    • Reminds me of the time it took me three years to get a $400 covid refund from them!

  • was the previous 30,000 bonus points for new card signing now replaced with the 20,000 ? Seems a little confusing to me. Some cards still have the 30k bonus while others only the 20k.

  • If I applied and got approved for an AmEx Qantas Business Rewards Card a couple of days ago and still haven’t activated it. Would I be eligible to activate this offer and apply for a personal card instead?

    • Same here. Curious.

  • A pity the points are being inflated out to nothing.

  • sitting on almost a million points - unable to find decent flights anywhere. Not getting more of these until I can redeem some.

    • where are you planning to fly?

      • wanted to head to Hong Kong then Japan - can't find any business flights any time period

        • +5

          Next three months
          Syd hongkong business
          29-31 jan
          12,13,16,19, 25 feb
          5, 11, 24, 30 31march

Hongkong Japan has plenty business seats everyday. Just empty period between 20ish march to 20ish april.

Any recommendations for a card to pair with this? Would prefer a higher approval rate rather than more points but of course a happy medium would be best.

    • Currently hold Amex Velocity Platinum (3.5k limit) which I would prefer to keep
    • Mortgage repayments around $2.6k / month
    • Illion score 730 & Experian 865
    • Salary approx $130k p/year with three dependants

Due to some (maybe) poor advice, a couple of months ago I applied for Westpac Altitude Qantas Black and ANZ Frequent Flyer Black on the same day and got denied for both. Minimum spend is not an issue thanks to my lovely wife..

    Cheers!

    • Anecdotally, I've found the big 4 banks (CBA and ANZ in particular) to be a bit more strict with their approvals.

Not needing/knowing specifics, I would make a guess that the declines on the two cards are more tied to your income, expenses, dependents, loan remaining, high interest rate environment, and each of those black cards having a minimum limit of $15,000 contributing towards the decline. Not because you applied for them on the same day.

If you really wanted to attempt again so soon, you may be best placed to maximize your chances by applying for a QFF card with the lowest minimum limit available (typically around $6,000 and branded as 'Platinum'). Keep in mind that you might want to do the calculations as to whether the annual fee outweighs the points received in your situation.

      • Thanks pal, appreciate the advice

    • AMEX are definitely the loosest with their approvals! I am looking at this as the best option: NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card. I ran into trouble from trying to churn multiple cards at once so I found cancelling my AMEX and moving on to the next card worked the best after a denial or two. Do you have a specific goal for your points?

    • Full list of cards here: https://cardsandbanking.qantas.com/compare-credit-cards .

I've never been rejected for a credit card, so cannot advise on approvals. You might want to try StGeorge.

I'll probably go for ANZ Qantas Black - 110000 points and $200 back with $425 fee.

  • Does anyone know if you need to apply for the card via the Qantas website? The terms seem to just say it must be one of the cards advertised on the site (does that mean can apply via a referral link instead??).

  • I have activated the offer and am eligible.

    1) Do I need to apply for a new card to receive the 20K bonus points?

    2) If I link my Everyday Rewards card to Qantas Points, will I still receive the 20K points?

    3) I currently have a CommBank Ultimate Awards credit card but earn CommBank Points instead of Qantas Points. Can I switch my card settings to earn Qantas Points instead and still qualify for the 20K bonus?

I’d prefer not to apply for another credit card.

      1. yes
      2. no, everyday rewards card is not a qantas points earning credit card
      3. no, only apply a new qantas earning credit card, after activating the offer and within the promo period will get the 20k bonus points
      • Thanks 😊

  • So does it mean I have to get a new card before 2nd February?

    • +1

No - read the T&C's. You must make a purchase within 30 days of card approval and you qantas points must hit your qantas accounts by 2 May. So you've got a few months

      • Ah okay thanks!

  • Just contacted customer service in regard to not receiving the points from signing up in October. They’ve stated you’ll receive the 20,000 points 12 weeks after the initial sign up bonus points are credited. Funnily enough points were credited 6th of November so stated I should receive the point today/tomorrow morning. Will update once I receive.

  • Is it applicable for Qantas Business Rewards customers?
