Yeah ! So much for the Olympic city, it's a joke !!! None of the Japanese airlines fly from Brisbane.

          • @sistermay: JAL used to serve Brisbane till 2010. Shame, but it might come back for the Olympics, then disappear again.

    • +1

ANA have a sale almost every month that lasts for a few days.

      • Will keep an eye out for the next round then.

  • +1

Got this sale last year. Zero issues with Jetstar for a change, transited in Cairns. Seamless experience.

  • Never been Japan, enticed now.
Which port to choose if buying now, planning later? Osaka or Tokyo? Going with young family. Will need to look at itineraries later.

    • I guess it depends if you want to go to Tokyo or Osaka…..

    • Do both

    • +3

Try to see if you can fly into one and leave from the over…take the fast train between the two….I wish we did this when booking ours.

      • Won't qualify for free return fare!
"Only available from the same arrival and departure ports"

    • +2

recommand to Osaka if you are flying from SYD, direct fly is much easier for the whole family. Osaka is general more relax compare to Tokyo

    • If you have to choose: Tokyo. There's so much to do there! You can start and finish your holiday with time in Tokyo at both ends and avoid having to train/fly on the same day or back to back.

    • It doesn't matter. Only there's a world expo this year in Osaka.

You will not visit Japan once. So avoid crossing the region.

  • +1

Reckon it's worth rolling the dice for public fare at midnight or cough up the $65 for early access? Looking at Seoul for $350 return!
Edit: total price difference is only $45 due to club price fare gap. Probably worth it for me.

    • +2

Also depends if you're going to add baggage. I've utilised this offer twice - once with and once without the membership.

When I joined last year, the difference once the baggage discount and the fare discount was added was like $10-20.

Year before, when the sale went public the site crashed, dates were selling out as quick as you could refresh. I would easily get the membership again to avoid the mess that was trying to book when the sale is unrestricted.

      • +1

Amazing user experience, you sold it for me. Thanks, mate.

    • -1

Sometimes the sales are very limited, other times they will be available for a week or more.

There may be another chance each month at a similar sale.

  • +1

last year cns osaka was $279 return i think.

  • -7

It's Jetstar, 99% chance your flight (and holiday) will be cancelled. Never again.

    • +5

Never had more than an hour delay on 15+ international flights with them, personally.

Going between Melbourne and Hobart, I would agree that the delay will usually be longer than the flight itself.

    • +4

Jetstar international flight has no drama, I fly 3 times to Japan on tim with confidence

    • +3

I've flown 5+ international flights with them in the last few years and never had any significant issues. At this price, it's worth it.

    • +1

Spoken like someone who hasn’t actually flown Jetstar international lol. They’ve been great for o/s flights.

    • True

  • +2

Given the popularity I’m surprised there’s no direct flights from/to Melbourne

    • -1

Might be too long a flight for certain types of planes maybe? The distance is something like 50% further than the usual SE Asian destinations.

      • +1

I googled distance and this is what I got.

        8,185 km
        Distance from Melbourne to Tokyo

        7,821 km
        Distance from Sydney to Tokyo

I can't see this being an issue.

I'm sure they can still fill the planes with direct flights.

    • +2

Qantas has direct flights in/out MEL, I guess Jetstar don't see the value in it.

      • +2

They used to! Got rid of it so Qantas could take the direct route back in 2019 I think. I did quite a few JQ MEL>NRT trips from 2012 to 2017, first on their cramped A330's before they brought in their B787's.

    • +1

There was a Jetstar direct flight for 2 years, but then it got hijacked by Qantas once they firgured out Japan was a gold mine.

I know because I got on, was brilliant value. I think they were so desparate for travellers it was about $500 including luggage and meals.

      • Unless it's cheap cheap like this, I wouldn't fly Melb>QLD>Japan. At $500 I would but at $1k regular price, I'd look at stopover options.

  • I had a glitch for business class return 2 people $3160 until I got to payment page.

    • Are you saying this works for a free return flight on Business Class as well?

      • No.

  • +7

Just for those interested, the Jetstar Tokyo to Sydney via Cairns route is a bit of an ugly one, you end up in Cairns at 3-4am or something like that. If you have no hiccups its tolerable but any delays make it a really crap spot to be waiting around - no lounges open, all of two food venues to pick from that are extremely expensive. Plus its just not a nice time to be sitting around after a redeye.

    • +2

I did BNE-CNS-NRT, flight got cancelled when we arrived in CNS on Christmas day - managed to convince them to fly me home to brisbane the next day and caught a flight to Osaka the following day.

The 8 hours we spent in line at cairns airport just to get a hotel booked by the only two jetstar staff left in the entire airport was truly bleak.

      • +1

Yeah sounds similar to what we dealt with, its one of those connections that are fine with no hiccups but absolutely disastrous when the smallest thing comes up. I worked for a company that refused to do direct flights, whatever not my problem, but we were delayed for 6 hours because they were lacking one FA and needed to wait for one with enough hours up the sleeve to do the return to Sydney leg of the journey.

    • Wish they did direct Sydney to Tokyo rather than Osaka.

  • +2

I clicked through, BNE-KIX and it told me bare basics was still ~$680. Doesn't seem that worth it TBH.

    • Without baggage?

      • Correct, only included 7kg carry on

  • -1

Let's go and beat the tourist record again.

    https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2025/1/15/japans-tourist-a…

    • +1

Why would you want to do that?

    • -1

Japan set a goal of 20M tourists a year by Olympic year 2020.

That's when I stopped going every year or 2 for 4-10 week trips. Had explored so many regions for over a decade.

Don't like meeting tourist. They're usually not interested in local culture, just what they can get out of it.

Rather, I join in with locals, at celebrations, festivals, & classes like traditional Japanese storytelling / comedy (Rakugo).

Was in Tokyo 2011 (tsunami & earthquake). Seemed I was one of few foreigners who stayed. But amazing festivals I go there for were closed & country in mourning. Upside - almost no tourists!

Still should be peaceful away from tourist areas. I mainly spent time with locals in remote & rural areas, where few tourists ventured.

Major tourist spots, gardens, temples & shrines aren't as pleasant when crowded - just not very Zen. Plan to arrive early to enjoy.

Too many tourists! No future trips planned.

      • -1

No one cares, your trip wasn't superior because you pretended to blend in with locals.
Your post is screaming tall poppy syndrome, it's actually hilarious.

        • +1

What a strange warped view on life you have😜
          You must be really butthurt😭

you pretended to blend in with locals

Lol! No pretending! They welcomed me everywhere. Often shouting out my name when I returned. Was a surprise to me to be so accepted.

But as they would always say "You'll never be Japanese".
I certainly wasn't interested in living there or "be Japanese". With training as a Social Psychologist - was fascinated by a very different culture.

Nothing superior about enjoying a great time with locals. It's so easy. We all enjoyed it!
As I've done in Japan for well over a year there. And often happens in other countries I visit.
          It's just normal for me.

Many don't want me to leave. Had marriage proposals, offer of houses, lots of money, and jobs - to try to make me stay. It's embarrassing!!
I return next time to a great party.

Maybe get out from the keyboard & try being sociable some time

"No one cares" about your strange negative views!
But expressing those will make you more marginalised. And far less likely to have positive experiences with others. Like I experience.

        • tall poppy syndrome

I believe the term is "wapanese".

      • Painfully cringe/pretentious

      • Pull ya head out of your ass

Is business class included in this sale?

If anyone has club Jetstar, can you do me a favour?

Looking to fly out of Cairns 11 May back 25th May.

2 adults and one infant on lap under 2 years old.

    Thanks

    • +2

"Book an outbound Starter fare and you will receive one return Starter fare free" i dont think buz class is starter

      • +2

I could book bus out but only economy for the free return.

  • +3

What's happened if they cancelled the flight. They will refund "$0" and you need to buy a new ticket?

    • You pay for your way back home

    • Following

  • I guess I will never understand how it works, as it shows Sydney-> Seoul one way is $379 but for 2 adults and 1 infant the final cost is coming $1650+ so not sure if it is considering free return at all ( checked for 25th May to following wednesday)

    • Book an outbound Starter fare and you will receive one return Starter fare free

Mabe the free return is limited to one passenger, you could try 2 separate bookings.

      • +1

Its not limited to one passenger. I have booked for two to Osaka before (and flew) and I have an upcoming to Seoul for 3. All of these bought during retrn for free sales.
It wont work for you if you're not a Club Jetstar member and if you are not signed in!

        • The $0 Club price still shows for me when selecting the return price, despite not being a member on not logged in. Of course it doesn't show in my cart.

    • +1

I guess I will never understand how it works

The first sentence says "Club Jetstar members get early access now.".

So. Are you a club jetstar member?

      • Just reached to that conclusion, thanks didn't continue jetstar club member this year

  • +2

    No love for Perth 🙁

  • Can you recommend Sydney to Seoul flight via jetstar? Thanks

  • +1

I am a little confused, if I want to get the free return fare can I book with a starter plus or I HAVE to just book a starter? I'm happy to pay extra for the checked luggage but on their website it says "checked luggage not included". Would seem a bit silly if you couldn't book checked luggage?

    • +1

You can select the $0 return flight and add baggage on the next screen.

20kg came up as $74 for me

    • +1

As long as you are selecting a $0 return flight you can pick the higher tiers at a discount. You can add baggage to starter anyway which may be cheaper depending on what other options you want (seats/food).

    • +1

Can add it the next screen, but I only do 7Kg yearly anyway with a single backpack, much easier than lugging a suitcase around another country.

  • Appreciate it!

  • Oof, free flights in my cart became unavailable during payment.
Ended up paying $300 more because of it, still a decent deal

    • How much in total?

      • There's still some $0 return flights but I needed the 30th Nov return flight, which is the last date offered. I was able to get $149 return flights instead.
In total I spent $1389 for two people return to Osaka including an add on 20kg bag each way. Oh and $65 on top for the club membership

  • Aw man nothing from Perth

  • booked melbourne > osaka return in may - 2 x regular fare (plus 1 x 20kg carry-on for one of us) with decent layover times - $542 per person. pretty good

  • Is it possible to fly into Osaka then return from Narita (or vice versa?)

    • +1

Nope - "Only available from the same arrival and departure ports"

    • You can - but not with this deal. Some airlines will charge more. Others won’t.
Does save time and money doing that depending on your itinerary.

Travellers should note rail travel between cities doesn’t come cheap so keep tjat in mind. For singles and couples it’s pretty good considering the speed and reliability of the service but the cost does add up for families of four or five.

  • +1

If I book Business class out I don't get a business return?
Website goes all funky when you select business out then business return, all the flight info disappears.

    • +3

If im not mistaken i dont think they offer return free for business, pretty sure this has always been the case when they run these deals

  • No December :( but decent deal. I flew to Japan with Jetstar twice taking advantage of this deal. No delay, no cancellation. Maybe I was lucky.

  • Planning to go next year, so no luck on dates. Assuming 2026 dates aren't likely to be added to this sale later…

Should I keep an eye out for a similar Jetstar sale this year or is it typically once a year?

    • +1

Jetstar have their birthday sale in may every year so it might be worth waiting till then

  • +6

Don't be a Bogan in Japan.

    Please.

    • -1

Going to go eat and walk at the same time in Shibuya just to spite you

  • +1

The MEL dates I looked at all had a 12hr layover in cairns, no thanks

  • -1

If you’re under 5’6 and can actually fit in a Jetstar seat then go for it. Anyone taller, you’re suicidal booking this airline for 10+ hours.

    • Not true. Last 3 years going to Hawaii on the same plane. Just under 6 foot and it’s fine.

    • -3

      Agree to disagree.

Put seat to maximum recline and open your legs.

    • Jetstar has 31" of seat pitch on their 787s, thats the same as United, American, Qantas, Cathay Pacific, British Airways ect lol

  • -1

With all the hidden fees and god forbid I want to have a carry on, it becomes the price of a regular ticket.

  • Can someone check if there are any flights departing melb to narita 14th and return the 4th of oct. Not a member yet but sussing out

    • +2

The member prices appear in dark blue and can be viewed by anyone.

However at a glance there don't appear to be any flights included in the special that depart in September and return in October. The specials seem to be May - July, August - September and October - November.

    • You can still check without being a member, it shows the final price at the end with or without the free return flight

  • I booked this in Jan 2017 from Sydney to Tokyo Narita via Gold Coast. $859 for 2 return with 1 x 20kg luggage + meals. Best price ever back then. And it was a fuss-free flight

  • Is there a website to calculate individual prices from travelling from A to B in Japan to determine if the various types of JR passes are worth it.

Also, with IC cards are they per person use or you need to buy one for each family member?
