  • Where is battlefield 2

    • No official servers

The Battlefield series has a peculiar naming scheme. BF2 is very old (released 2005) and barely had online capability. It's really not worth buying.

BF1 is 9 years newer, and was named 1 to coincide with the World War 1 theme of the game.

      • Ok I have to jump in there and say that BF2 had an amazing online scene, although yes the official servers shutdown when gamespy stopped doing their thing many years ago.

Looking on here, https://www.bf2hub.com/servers there is good old ToG and some BF2 hub server that has bots in there at the moment. So, if you're determined there is still hope! That bf2hub website has a client and stuff to use to join unofficial servers

        • I loved playing BF2 with friends back in the day, but going back to it now would be rough. The graphics were impressive for the time but they don't look so crisp at 1440p these days.

  • Any of these are better than BF 2042

    • +2

Yes, 1 and V were amazing ! although i suspect there wont be many active players.

    • BF 1942 eats them all.

Take me back to BF 1942 and BF Vietnam days, best games at the time.

    • I jumped on a BF 1942 server. Granted the ping was horrible I was able to still capture some flags and kill off a few people. I'd love to see a LAN play a big round.

    • It had a great community, especially around the GameArena era

I'll jump back into these games the moment they readd my beloved EOD Bot as it was in Battlefield 4.

24/7 Operation Locker, I'd sit at the back next to an ammo resupply box and send in EOD bot after EOD bot. Turn off the light and in the confusion of the CQC, you could slip the bot behind enemy lines and then nibble everyone's shins to death. Only took about 1 second of nibbling to get a kill. If it dies, just send out another. If the enemy advances, park an EOD bot in a hidden corner, retreat to a safe spot, then reactivate the EOD bot which is now behind enemy lines and nibble shins with impunity. For some reason, some people who noticed it would decide they could monkey knife fight it, and underestimating it almost always got them killed.

My K/D was absolutely ridiculous because an EOD bot dying doesn't count as a death.

I respect and hate you at the same time. Always thought EOD bots were so OP on Operation Locker.

    • BF3 Operation Metro map with the UAV "roadkills" made campers really salty. It was the counter to that chokepoint where they'd continuously heal and respawn.

      • I wonder if UAVs would be used more now especially due to the war in Ukraine

I mean it should but I'm thinking it will take a lot of fun out of it. Leave the simulator to Hell Let Loose.

BF2042, BF4, BF1 and BF5 all have Aussie servers of people playing. BF3 and Hardline are dead though. Except for BF4 the others have 1-2 full servers running each night.

BF4 is the more popular one still over 11 years later. Maybe you get 2-4 full Aussie servers.

only touch Hardline and BF3 for the Single Player.

    • good to know there's still a few full servers!!

      • You can still touch Hardline and BF3 just expect to play with overseas players only.

My ranking in terms of popularity for the Aussie community and ignoring Steam charts numbers.

        1) BF4
        2) BF2042
        3) BF1
        4) BF5
        5) Hardline / BF3 tied

That's not entirely accurate for PC players. Maybe you're on a different platform although 2042 is cross platform. 2042 has the most active players in Oceania, then BF4, then BFV and BF1.

Player count right now in ANZ (10am Tuesday)
BF2042: 52 (and that is only counting community servers, you cannot see how many players are playing on official servers.)
      BF4: 40
      BFV: None
      BF1: None

All games become much more active later in the day.

      • Yeah i'm more talking prime time numbers maybe you observation is different to mine. It was it easiler to check in the days of Gamespy. I was referring to PC numbers as well

        • Haha old school. Obviously a veteran too :) 2042 averages about 400-500 concurrent players on the community servers each night up until about 10.30pm when it starts to drop off in ANZ.

Won't find much activity in Oceanic during weekdays. But BF1 pops off every evening and weekend on community servers. Still a few hundred regulars that play everyday. BF1 is a game I have never been able to put down, mostly because the OCE community is a lot of fun

        • Yep, definitely a great game. I see the A1 lads still play a lot.

        • Oh hi Brad!

  • is it true that EA are shutting down their current game launcher and launching a newer app with steam integration?

    • EA are shutting down Origin, their original launcher/DRM service. But they've had their newer EA launcher available for many years- as far as I know they're not closing it down as well.

      • i think from memory that the origin launcher was basically stand alone where as the EA one is more accommodating to BF series installs through steam etc.

but i do believe that if you dont change to EA then you might loose your catalogue.

FYI same prices in EA app as well.

    BF1 on sale again! Bam.

3 Good Aussie servers: https://tinyurl.com/bf1filters go here and adjust your settings and look for BoB#1, 2 & 3 add em to your favourites and join their discord !

    • Thanks for this - gonna install it and give this a go.

      • Pleasure.

  • Battlefield 6 playtest coming soon - https://screenrant.com/battlefield-6-playtest-launch/

  • Are any of the single player campaigns in these decent??

    • +1

I very rarely play single player, but have been pleasantly surprised by the BF1 single player campaign.

      • Thanks. I vaguely recall hearing that around release in the reviews. Might grab it for a couple dollars.

    • I seem to recall the BF4 campaign was decent, and the BF1 campaign was supposedly very good - I never bothered.

      • The last BF campaign I played was BF3. It kind of dragged on too long that I lost interest by the end. Some of the CoD had good storylines. The first Black Ops was great.

  • $2.50 for BF4 premium is fantastic. I heard there's still lots of player in MP in Australia too.
