Who is using a Samsung on AldiMobile?

I just ported in, and I can receive calls, send and receive SMS.
But when I try to make a call, it says Not Registered.

I ported from another Telstra MVNO Belong, so I know its not the phone.

Kinda stuck and appreciate any help.

Thanks

Looks like an issue porting to the same network which I usually try to avoid.

    Best to contact Aldi Mobile.

  • Already reported, but its baffled me.

    Everything works but outgoing calls.

My Dad had the same issue with his phone (a different brand though).
SMS was fine but calls outbound failed.

Tried the Aldi sim in another phone and it was fine.
Tried a Telstra sim in his phone and it was fine.
My mums Aldi sim had the same issue in his phone, but worked in her iPhone okay.
Phone was running the latest security updates.

Aldi support wasn't helpful, said it was a phone issue and to contact the manufacturer.

Ended up just porting to Amaysim which was fine. Previously was Vodafone, that too was fine.
Just something weird with Aldi, but they were not much help.

TLDR - we realised ALDI mobile just didn't make outbound calls on some phone handsets, and porting to another provider may be the quickest solution.

  • On an S21+ with an ALDI sim. No issues calling or texting.

  • S20 FE with Aldi mobile, have been on it for a couple of years now without issue.

  • Which model is your phone? Because of the 3G shutdown, Aldi has indicated that some phones like the Samsung S8, has a hardware limitation which stops voice from working. Data is fine though.

  • Galaxy Fold 5

  • Im on A21s and i ported to Aldi from Optus a while ago and i was fine.

    Its working now

    • I ported to vodafone and also get the not registered from time to time. It usually lasts 5 to 10 mins and in that time cant send message or make calls. Mever had that prob with telstra. Just curious anyone experienced this aswell on voda

  • Apparently they doubled there network alsp but i still have same problems

  • Yep same issue, ordered a bunch of sims for the kids and have tried in multiple handsets (samsung, nokia, ZTE) all the same issue even though all 4G or 5G and previously working with both telstra and aldimobile. They all had no outbound calling, no inbound calling but I do get missed call text messages after trying to call the sim and fraudulent type charges on the aldi account around the same time.

The fraud is most interesting, account shows calls to well known spam numbers when the phone is unable to make any calls. Aldimobile is refusing to answer to these fraudulent calls.

I've tried for weeks to call aldimobile, email them get dumb ass support people that have no idea they are doing. Each contact the repeat the same instructions, restart phone, turn on/off airplane mode, minute I mention anything technical they just get lost in confusion. They then also just close support cases without solutions for the esupport requests.

I think, the issue is with the SIM cards not having the correct commands to inform the phone that the carrier can use VoLTE. Best example is the Nokia 8.3 5G which absolutely works with VoLTE and Telstra, plus of course is 5G, won't work with any of the aldi sims. Same issue with a Samsung A5 that use to work with Aldimobile pre-3G shutdown.

(I believe there is a whitelist in the firmware of most phones listing known carriers and protocols so clearly adimobile isn't in that list or is listed wrong, but this can be override by the sim is my understanding and of course any brand new (2025) phone likely has gotten an updated whitelist recently after the 3G shutdown forced them to identity this error)

there is an interesting discussion around using a tool called Shizuku and Pixel IMS to force override the carrier (aldimobiles) commands without needing a firmware patch or new SIM. I have tried this and it did force on VoLTE and at least managed to override the outgoing call issue but still getting a cross on the signal so isn't properly fixed and can't find any further guidance on what to try next. Probably worth trying on your Samsung with the same procedure.

There is another post confirming that a user engaged the TIO and they forced aldimobile to ship out a new SIM with the correct commands to activate VoLTE. I am thinking of doing the same, but the TIO can take months to engage and the sims have already expired the credit for me (yep support has taken so long the starter credit actually expired).

here is one of the posts might be worth a read.

and this one talks to the "sim swap" that TIO forced aldimobile to do.
