Dell's Re-Branding Their desktops and laptops to Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max

If you haven't already heard, Dell is re-branding to 'simplify' their line up. And within those 3 series, there are 3 tiers each for a total of 9 (excluding screen size and year).

Dell Base

Dell Plus

Dell Premium

Dell Pro Base

Dell Pro Plus

Dell Pro Premium

Dell Pro Max Base

Dell Pro Max Plus

Dell Pro Max Premium

The Alienware series will be the only one unchanged, which is ironic as unlike the other Dell series, it didn't originate from Dell.

So for example, a top end 15" Precision xxxx will now be a Dell Pro Max 15 Premium; I don't think it simplifies things when you move from 2 sets of characters to 5.

Think I’d rather read about an uninsured traffic crash story while going to redeem gift cards than this.

Im confused… Am I supposed to be outraged and angered by this decision or happy and pleased… Am I supposed to be all "This is BULLSHIT!" or "OMG! It's about time"??

And really… Did they take an "Apple brand naming" course and just lean into it like Google did? Next they will be called the Dell 17 Pro and Pro Max.

Clearly Dell were inspired by the Chery car naming format as well.

      Sorry I’m late

‘That’s a bloody outrage it is’

  • Why not just use s m l like clothes…

    • You mean XXXL, XXXXL and XXXXXL?

Dell has a problem with branding, naming, product tier differentiation, but this is not the solution.

  • This is like 1984 newspeak. Dell doubleplusgood.

I'll wait out for the Dell Pro Max Premium Titanium XL

    • And Ultra, Plus, SE edition

I wish one day there is a company that offer just one model. If dell, it would be dell. Full stop. We just customise everything as we like. So someone can have pro max screen but base hdd, and pro ram, and pay accordinly.

    • It's called a Metabox, you are free to buy those but you won't.

I don't think it's as complicated as you make it sound.

    The old naming scheme was:

    Entry-level home consumer - Inspiron
    High-end home consumer - XPS
    Entry-level business - Vostro
    Mid-range business - Latitude, Optiplex
    Professional - Precision

    Now it's:
    Home Consumer - Dell
    Business - Dell Pro
    Professional - Dell Pro Max

Previously the sub-tiers were a whole different name, i.e. Inspiron, XPS, Vostro, Latitude, Optiplex, Precision. That's a load of word salad.
Now the sub-tiers are [no suffix], Plus, and Premium.

So an entry-level home consumer laptop is a Dell laptop. A midrange business laptop is a Dell Pro Plus, and a premium professional model (which OzBs won't buy anyway) would be Dell Pro Max Premium.

    • Ok if it is so simple as you say then which one of those will be the XPS? Considering the XPS is the highest grade with the highest price?

According to your logic a XPS would only be a Dell Premium yet there will be laptops called Pro Max Premiums that sound higher grade yet could spec wise be slower and worse.

Yup, it's similar to how you can get an Inspiron with Core Ultra 9, 32GB RAM, and RTX4060 that's more powerful than an XPS with Ultra 5 226V, 16GB RAM, and onboard video. The XPS sounds higher grade yet spec-wise it's slower and worse.

  • I can't quite put my finger on it. Something awfully familiar about the new naming scheme…

  • They'll be calling their small computers "Dell Air" by the end of the year.

    • What about their printers?

Will they be called Fresh Prints?

Dell/all laptops/sort by price. Choose what you can afford. Disregard BS marketing naming.

  • So, the Dell range will now be the Dell range.

Yep, same brand name changed to the same brand name….got it…. not.

    What did I miss?
