Ortega Kitchen Wooden Chopsticks 5 Pairs $4 + Delivery ($0 with OnePass) @ Catch

40

Don't know about the quality, and I already have too many sets of chopsticks at home, bought some pretty expensive ones while I was in Japan.

Note these don't seem to have training wheels (grooves on the tips), so maybe a bit hard to use if you're beginner of chopstick fu.

  • Chop chop .

  • I prefer to use the Korean metal chopsticks. No deformation or anything like that

I would recommend the Chinese metal ones, Korean ones are too flat and less comfortable for my liking.

      • Come to think of it, I've never seen metal Japanese chopsticks, maybe because they would be too sharp and dangerous.

      • Flat is not the issue, they are super heavy! Round metal ones are good though, they are hollow inside.

        • Can't think of one reason they should be designed that way

Can't stand Korean flat metal chopsticks. Easily the worst out of all the chopsticks I've used.

As others have mentioned, the korean chopsticks are flat, they can be challenging even for someone who has been using chopsticks their whole life.

    • Personally I prefer middle eastern chop sticks… ;)

The sticks used for kebab skewers. Tried that not very effective.

With Catch shutting down in April this year I expect there will be a fire sale on a lot of items?

    • It already has and strong going.

OMG, I did not know that Catch is closing down! What a pity.

  • Never buy expensive chopsticks as the ones made from wood/bamboo should be thrown out after 6 months of usage. Wood/bamboo will start getting mouldy and also absorb flavours from past meals after the protective coating wears away.

Why even fine dining restaurants in Japan uses disposable chopsticks. So much more hygienic.

    • Unlike Australia where we just dump it in the ground, Japan also has a good recycling / waste management system where they burn most of their garbage in incinerators which are also used to generate power.
