I took this bag around Japan for a month last year and was happy with it. It's not a hiking backpack, it's a bag you can comfortably strap onto your back for 20 minutes when you're walking from your hotel to the train station. It's lightweight, has a couple of little pockets, zips are pretty smooth, and it fits quite a lot of stuff. Jetstar allowed me to bring it as carry-on, but YMMV.
"Roman Salute" ahh bag
