      • He wanted you to rearrange a word or two or at least add in an exclamation mark

Great first post OP. Thanks grabbed a few bottles.

This isn't a real synthetic, I don't see PAO or ester on the spec sheet. It's a highly refined mineral oil that's gone through a hydrocracking process.

    • +7

Arent most of them like this? Especially at this price point. I know the penrite ten tenths oil is a full synthetic by what you are saying, what else is there on the market here?

Having said that the nulon stuff goes pretty good in my experience

      • +1

There's not many that are true synthetic. It's an industry wide issue that won't change unless the government intervenes.

        • +1

Sounds like you have fully bought into the marketing!

        • do you run 0w30 in your ford falcon?

        • +1

          Interdasting, thank you

Meanwhile, I've been reading some old boomer blog about how high zinc doesn't help with engine wear, and that oil pressure is more important than anything. He espouses 5w30, meanwhile Toyota is specifying 0w8 (for Western countries only - Africa still gets 5w30 with carburettor and no catalytic converter)

Interesting times for the oil industry

All oils "go pretty good" for the layman.

    • That's weird.

How do they get away with marketing it as full synthetic?

    • Yes its likely a Group 3 base oil. It's widely accepted as a 'synthetic' base oil but still the debate rages on. Most "synthetics" on the market are Group 3 unless you're paying top dollar.

    • +6

If you can ensure an oil change every 5,000–6,000 kilometers, the type of base oil used won’t make much of a difference. Whether it’s Group 3+, 4, or 5, these oils primarily extend the interval between changes. However, you also need to consider whether the oil filter can last for 10,000 or 15,000 kilometers. Therefore, the most reliable approach is to increase the frequency of your oil changes.

      • yer. every 5k and my RAV4 lasted 310k and still going (I gave it away to couz; hope he takes care of it).

ACTKUALLY….Nulon Apex+ 5W-30 Full Synthetic Engine Oil is indeed a fully synthetic oil. It is formulated with advanced synthetic base oils, specifically Group IV Poly Alpha Olefin (PAO) and Group V Alkylated Naphthalene (AN), which are recognized as 100% synthetic base oils.

    • +2

Yeah but you ain't getting a Group IV oil for $35 either.

    • -3

Yes it is full synthetic. Its amazing how little some people know about oils and the process that go into synthesing oils.

Jimbo, there is a website called Bobistheoilguy, some good articles there which could bring you up to speed…

      • I've been reading bitog for many years. The group III "synthetics" are a great oil for the price, I'm just pointing out that they are not a true synthetic and find the practice of labeling them as such to be deceptive.

Lets not get the fact that you cannot understand basic high school chemistry get in the way of your promotion of an idea that has long been proven to be wrong, stop you from pushing a lost argument!

Never give up just because its wrong!

    • Hey do you know if Penrite HPR5 is a full/real synthetic or close? I change mine every 7000km except this time I'm on 9000km (K24 engine)

      • +2

I am pretty sure only their ten tenths one is. You need to look at the datasheet.

Not to say you need such a "real synthetic" I use the HPR5 just fine in performance engine

  • +4

can i use this in my EV

    • I have the same question

    • +2

Yeah get some blinker fluid while you're at it.

    • Get ya EV checked for coolant and leaks just in case. No need for this sort of oil.
