  • no 98"?

    https://appliancesdeals.com.au/products/tcl-98-c745-qled-goo…

    It's C745 model though, thoughts?

    • +3

C855 any day of the week.

      • +5

struggling to find 98" C855 deals.. almost settling for C755.

        • +3

C855 98” is sold out in Aus. I had a big issue with my order and had to escalate it to senior management at TCL Aus. They sent one from overseas but made it clear there’s no more X955 115” and C855 98” coming into Aus. TCL have announced their new range of TVs so I guess we need to await Aus pricing and availability.

        • I've been tempted to do that, but I'm unsure on whether the specs are right. Looking at the TCL websitethe specs appear to be what is sold globally as the C765 for the 98" with 1,536 odd dimming zones and 2,400 peak brightness, while all the smaller sizes are the C755 with 880 dimming zones and 1,600 peak brightness.

Hard to tell though, because TCL slap branding on things wildly. The C755 in the US is better than the C755 here.

Looks like a sick replacement for the kids tv

      • +1

So the kids use an 85" TV to they.

      • +6

I bought a nice 75" tv for the living room. 99% of viewing is kids shows. Adults end up watching tv on the shitty 40" in the bedroom at night haha

        • +3

Swap those tvs around. Kids don’t care about picture quality or sound or anything. We have the OLED in our room and have the TCL in the living room since it’s 90% kids shows on there. Sure it’s not much to show off when people come around, but

          • @djsweet: Doesn't really bother me. We have two living rooms with good tvs, so I could watch one if the kids are watching the other… but not much time for TV these days anyway!

          • @djsweet: Get a projector for kids, no more broken panel.

            • +2

@Richardc: If I did that my kids would kick and scream that their is no inky blacks anymore on their Peppa Pig episodes

      • Good replacement for my dunny TV

    • +1

      I've got a 55" C745 and it's fantastic. Can't fault it.

  • +2

Carton damage hey, is that code word for clearance?

    • +1

Or does it mean that because one of the units in the pallet was damaged by a forklift that they need to sell all the other units from the pallet as carton damaged. Even but it's most likely that none of those units are damaged.

      • no, i believe it's code for returned.

so long as it's got a manufacturer wty, who cares!

    • +1

I thought that it was a marketing term trademarked by Sony?

      • +1

Yes if box damaged by Sony it means "we can't sell our TVs"

  • Looking for c855 deals

    • +3

Mostly all sold out in Australia. Had my 85 inch delivered a week or so ago and i was told pretty much most sizes were last batch and almost all gone.

      • Do you think they'd get more stock in for C855 in different sizes, or likely to just move onto the TCL 2025 range of TV's now?

        • +2

Harvey Norman told me they have moved onto 2025 range

        • +1

Most likely will move onto the 2025 range. Around April every year i believe! I purchased the 85 inch in october last year and delayed the delivery by 2 months, but when i called 2 weeks ago i was told there were 50 left and that was the last batch for all the sizes.

          • +2

@Shanetrain: Dayummmm. Was keen on a 75 c855 sale. Guess I'm waiting for 2025 range now lol.

            • @Ilikecars: Almost had the tv refunded on me and missed it myself! Panicked and had it delivered asap haha. Snagged the 85 c855 for $2100, couldn't let it get away.
I'm sure this years model will drop quick, they always seem to.

  • +1

As much as I am anti China product, have to say the is a good deal.

I was at Bing Lee few weeks ago and looking at the difference between Mini LED and OLED, the difference is quite clear. However it was definitely not 2.5 to 3 better like the price.

    • Yeah I mean Mini led is really just LCD with more refined backlights…micro led might come close to OLED or even surpass it though.

      • Some say Micro LED is better because it has all the Pros of OLED without the negatives, for example, the brightness on Micro LED is much higher and on par with LED TVs.

        • Except that it has the negatives of all LCD tvs

          • +2

@serpserpserp: What negatives? The only problem right now with LCD is black uniformity which will be mitigated with Micro LED.

    • +3

      Name….does not check out

    • +2

Ultimately, they different technologies and one is clearly better but unless you have them side by side, you're not going to be disappointed with these. My folks have this TV in a bright living room and it's absolutely fantastic screen. The dimming zones make the blacks incredibly dark so watching movies on them at night is a joy. I don't know how much better an equivalent OLED would be (maybe 50% better?) but it's almost certainly not 2-3x better.

      • +2

The point is many people just don't care that an image is not the best possible. An image from a TV like this is still excellent compared to 99.9% of TVs ever released and your parents, like mine, just don't see any value in a better image.

It's very easy to get worked up with optimising the experience. It is very similar to audiophile nonsense where they portray anything less than current best as offensive to the ears. They fail to realise that most people don't see any value in getting better gear.

        • Agreed.. Blacks are important for gamers and avid movie buffs. Outside of that, no one cares about the blacks on standard LEDs unless you have a really bad TV with so much bleeding. But I have an 85" Sony Full array from 2020. It's great that it's 120hz for gaming but there is a lot of light bleed from the panel, I went into JB the other day and was watching two OLED's on display, one was playing Top Gun Maverick and the other was playing an extended gameplay trailer for Resident Evil Village. I've watched Top Gun Maverick on my TV and I've completed RE Village on my TV and I can tell you, it was like I was watching a different movie and played a different game, the picture quality is so noticeably better. I've been waiting for a drop in prices because an 85" equivalent OLED is not cheap but I'm still worried about brightness.

          • @Justin9mm: No doubt OLED and high end mini LED dominate, but i guarantee you my aging dad would not notice blooming and he would think people buying $2000+ TVs need their heads examined, lol.

I’m a bit of an enthusiast so I have an expensive home theatre setup by most people’s standards. My speakers were $16k and I can see the look on their faces when i tell them that number… they think i need my head examined (perhaps they are right). I know people drop a lot more than that on high end gear, but most people think a $2.5k soundbar with rears is extravagant.

        • Completely agree. My folks had no issue with their old Sony TV which is almost a decade old and screen brightness would jump every time subtitles came up on the screen because it didn't have any sort of local dimming. Absolutely wild it didn't bother them. But it bothered me and when they decided the upgrade, they probably didn't notice the significantly more stable brightness control and they were way more focused in upgrading from a 65' to an 85'. They were also happy they got the TV for just under $2.5k 18mths ago

Any comments from someone who has compared the C845 & C855? Local dimming zones are greatly increased in the C855, which looked impressive in store - wonder if the C845 will be much less so.

  • Does it have 3D?

    • There is no TV with 3D capability on the market. They stopped making them in 2016.

Need a projector for that these days.

      • I thought they were joking, now I want to know

      • Or an oculus quest. 3d is pretty decent on it

    • +5

      The TV is 3D, yes.

  • I am considering 85 as it will just look over the top huge in the size of room I have. Just worried about the quality of what I watch, mainly Kayo. Half the time it's pixilated, 85 is just going to blow up those pixels even more and it's going to look really shitty hey?

    • Depends on viewing distance a bit, far enough away it should be fine.

Could wait a few years and get some good AI upscaling when it comes out.

    • Just make sure kayo is 1080p at a minimum. But yeah, even 1080p won't be perfect on a giant 4k TV and you'll need to make sure your Internet connectivity is perfect

      • I didn't realise this was an option, can't believe I didn't just look for that earlier.

        • If you don't have at least a 7.5mbps connection it will just auto steam at 720p

    • Depends on the content. AFL / NRL and Formula 1 at 4K will look great. NBA will look pretty bad…

      • Yeah been watching a lot of NBA lately and it's been horrible. Even UFC PPV that I actually paid for was pretty shit (that will teach me to not pirate it). My internet connection is rock solid so I blame Kayo, unless it's my internal wifi…

    what's with the damaged cartons

was the truck attacked by a swarm of alligators along the route

    • Usually it's a mix of poor handling by warehouse teams and a lack of care by truck drivers not restraining their loads securely.

  • How many dimming zones?

  • Do carton damaged come with full manufacturer warranty?

    • no. 1 year only

      • Yeah I noticed that but thought it may just be a default thing as most tv manufacturers are just 1 year… I was looking at the 65" option which is $1,492 currently…

        • I thought those with full price sold in JB were a 3-year warranty.

  • Any recommendations in there for a 55" 4K TV? OS doesn't matter as it will be running off an ATV.

55P715 if it comes off backorder?

    • P715 is from 2020…

      • True, but often the higher end models from earlier years are still better than current lower end models.

    • +1

I have the 55" version of this TCL C845 model above and love it. We bought it about a year ago from JB and have no issues whatsoever.

  • only one year's warranty.
    is it a second-hand item?

  • +2

After almost 12 months with a 65" TCL C745 I am certain I will not buy another TCL. We don't have a TV antenna but connecting solely via either wi-fi or with an ethernet cable. We are on a 100 / 20 NBN plan so the download speed is more than adequate however whilst much of the time the TV reception is fine there are occasions when for no apparent reason the program we are watching will just stop and the TV will return to the home screen. Not only if this frustrating but often when trying to reload the channel / program the TV will just freeze. At that point we will not only have to turn the TV off but have to turn it off at the power, wait for a short time and then turn the power back on, return to the channel, and wait for it to connect.

    • To be honest I think it’s just the tv station apps, I have a new series 9 Sony Bravia and I have the same thing happen to me. My son has a C835 and he has the same problem with the tv apps. But never with Netflix etc.

    • Had the same thing happen to me on a TCL P725 55". Called support and a technician came out and replaced the board. No more issues and a much quicker ui now.

      • I have a TCL C645 43" and i hadn't had any problems with it.

  • I've got this tv and it's been great but it chews a heap of power when in her or Dolby Atmos. Approximately 400W. Otherwise it's just below 200w
