Techfast PCs Power Cable

So my ITX PC came today in the mail but when I was setting things up I saw that there was no power cord? Does it not come with the PC? Sorry if that's an obvious question, I'm pretty new to PCs.

They've also included a sheet inside with instructions on how to install windows but their method is to download the windows iso file onto the computer and using some program called "Ventoy"?. I've already made a USB with the windows installation files by watching this YouTube video. Can I just plug that in and boot the PC up?

How big is you letter box?

      You need to stop.

      • No I don't.

      • Just hide all their comments. Best thing I ever did.

        • How did you see this to reply then?

  • An IEC-C13 Power cord should be usually included with your prebuilt PC, they probably forgot to include it with your order.

i would ask for an reimbursement and get your own cord from somewhere, you probably might have a few kicking unused in your home from old appliances like rice cookers or laptop chargers.

Ventoy is not needed if you already successfully created a bootable USB image.

Ventoy, and other similar apps like Rufus / Etcher is typically used to create bootable images from ISO images. Not mandatory to use since it's already possible to create a bootable USB using Microsoft's own MediaCreationTool.exe.

    • Thanks for explaining :)

I've got 2 monitors so just borrowed the power cord off one of them and have ordered one from bunnings. I've sent techfast an email, hopefully they reply soon.

I'm having a bit of trouble with the USB. I followed the video instructions and booted the PC up to the BIOS utility page and put the USB as boot priority number 1. However when rebooting the PC is still just takes me to the Linux homescreen :( Am I doing something incorrect?

      • Try pressing the F12 key as you boot. That should give you a list of disks that you can boot from.

When you opt to install Windows make sure you delete all the extra partitions, usually on a Linux install there will be a bootloader and a larger partition for the OS.

Remove all of these until you have a clean slate (nothing) and install then windows normally (it'll create all the necessary partitions by itself)

        • I've got a bunch of partitions that I don't understand. Which ones do I need to delete?

          Disk 0 partition 1
          Disk 0 partition 2
          Disk 0 unallocated space
Disk 1 partition 1: ESD USB
          Disk 1 unallocated space

          • @Bonemusher: Disk 0 refers to your internal drive, Disk 1 looks like its your usb drive.

You will want to delete all the of the pre existing partitions on disk 0 until you have nothing left, you should just have unallocated space.

(Unallocated space means it's just a void, it's an unused part of the drive).

    Why not contact TechFast?

They may have missed putting a power cable in the box. It'll be a bog standard one and you can pick one up from any Officeworks, Good Guys, JB HiFi, Amazon, any nearby computer store.

Ventoy is an open source software to create bootable USB drives. There's dozens of alternatives, doesn't matter which one you use as long as it works. What does matter if making sure you downloaded the Windows ISO from Microsoft directly and not some dodgy third party place.

      Why not contact TechFast?

      That is too logical…

    • Thanks for explaining. I've contacted techfast hopefully they reply soon.

  • I'd activate your win 11 using MassGravel rather than the dodgy keys linked in the Youtube vid you posted. Both ways are against the EULA but at least massgravel is free.

Edit: And just steal the power cable from the toaster/kettle/slowcooker.

  • I've finally managed to install windows on my PC thank god haha. The current display has the screen all stretched out. I did some google search and I think its because my displayed adapter is set as the Microsoft basic display adapter and not the RTX 4060 ITX that the PC comes with. But when I try to change adapters the GPU doesn't come up. Any fix for this?

When I got to disk manager NVIDIA doesn't show up under manufacturers even though I've checked "Uncheck Show compatible hardware"

Please make sure your LCD monitor is connected to your graphics card. It should not be connected to the HDMI port of your motherboard.

    • Have you installed the nvidia drivers for the 4060?

      • I didn't, I've now installed it and the display has been fixed! However for some reason the PC has some lagging issues. For some reason there are periods of time where the cursor moves as smooth as butter but as soon as I open up anything it gets laggy as hell.

I've checked the NVIDIA app and the refresh rate matches the monitor. I also rebooted the PC after installing the new drivers as well. For some reason every now and then the monitor seems to black out and say HDMI 2 cable not recognised even though I have it plugged in, I need to restart the PC to get it to work again. I opened up the PC to check if there were any loose items but it doesn't seem like there's any.
