Probably Netanyahu and Zelinsky are eligible. Not sure about our Albo?

I assume from tomorrow Ambassador KRudd will be eligible for the US Global Deportation Program. Well if NewsCorp gets their way.

mainland US is not among the countries we are willing to visit anytime within the next 4 years.

Hawaii and Guam is always nice place to visit anytime of the year. =)

You sure? Next Fifa World Cup is co hosted by USA in 2026 and Socceroos will most likely qualify for it.
      Go Socceroos ⚽️

      • +6

as much as I love them (Socceroos), I am consciously avoiding mainland US for now.

I will definitely support Socceroos in other ways.

        Go Socceroos ! =)

The previous two were in Qatar and Russia. Do you know what they have in common? Places I don't especially wish to visit rn. (and I'm such a big football fan, I timed my last trip to Europe around The Euros in Germany.

        • I timed my last trip to Europe around The Euros in Germany.

I couldn't get any tickets (I was in Europe for the Olympics and Tour de France).

The World Cup ticketing is even harder - it's some stupid game you have to play collecting stuff this time, which I don't understand and sounds like too much hassle to learn what the heck I need to do…

I'm still going anyway and hoping I can just rock up and buy tickets.

          • @brotherfranciz: Good luck. The Euros were very hard and whilst I stuck to official ticketing, I got a couple of the uber priced ones.

I've decided I'm going to go to Europe at the end of the 2025/26 season (my work long service leave kicks in then) and try to watch some club football in places I've always wanted to see and maybe see if I can get to the Champions League final in Budapest.

Like you say, a lot of it is a pain. I hope you enjoyed the Olympics and TDF, those would've been good. I was contemplating going to a leg of the Tour De France in Italy but I'd already booked a lot of my trip by then and it was going to be a pain essentially travelling long distances just to go for a day so decided to chill.

I think rocking up and buying tickets isn't a bad plan. I think I missed out trying to get all my ducks in a row. I think tickets will work out, even if it's a mark up, you only live once and the high ticket prices is offset by booking your flights and accomodation earlier.

Next Fifa World Cup is co hosted by USA in 2026

Also co-hosted by Canada and Mexico, so I guess you can technically still see the World Cup in-person without being in the USA.

I’m going back soon as I heard the USA will be Great Again on Monday 🇺🇸

      • More like Grape again… a sour one.

    • +7

Your loss…you're going to miss out seeing idiocracy in action.

Trump launched a crypto meme coin today, which has shot to 5.5 billion USD in value. They're only few weeks away from watering their crops with Gatorade.

      • +3

        Idiocracy is a documentary.

        • +1

I think US is already past this and this stage but next 4 years will be the real entertainment.

      • Now tripled…and this is the reason I have no interest in this offer any time soon…

Having to pay just to be able to use the smartgate, is this a joke?

    • +11

      no, its America!

the Smartgate will probably ask you to tip too.

    • +4

Their stupid compulsory tipping of 25% - 30% is another joke, the restaurant doesn't charge 30% less on their food price yet expecting customer to pay for staff wages.

Their hotel is dodgy with listing room price as $20 but with rip-off "resort fee" of hundreds of dollars.

With current AUD rate it will be stupid to travel to US, it is best to go to countries that your currency has higher value, i.e Japan

      • Don’t tip. Play dumb… Australia dumbness works every time… exchange rate is down but in comparison things in USA much cheaper i.e. groceries, tech, fast food

        • +2

I went recently, this might have been the case, but I can assure you, it isn't now.

        • +2

Fastfood is not cheaper, InNOut, ShakeShack after added sales tax and currency conversion it will be like 2x the US price and with that price it is not cheaper than in Australia.

Eating out like Steak with added 30% tips and 1.6x currency conversion it is much more expensive than eating TGIF in Australia on 50% off day and with 20% off TGIF gift card for example.

        • I don't think you can just don't tip, it will be added to your bill at restaurant unless you do not dine in.

        • +1

Grocery is also not cheaper than in Australia considering we can get like 4 weeks offer, discounted gift card, half price catalogue.

Same for tech stuff, deal posted on ozbargain is cheaper than you just to walk in to shop as casual customer.

I have not seen any worthy deal at all, and also don't forget the price you've seen does not include sales tax which is ~10% and you can't claim back this tax as with TRS in Australia.

  • +16

Don't bother I just got in via mexico .

  • +4

Does this include Mexican border entries climbing a fence?

    • +2

They have concierges there now who will help you up the ladder and toss your bags over the fence after you.

  • +1

You should also note that there are only 1000 spots for phase 1.

  • +2

Neat - just applied! Paid with a US credit cards that refunds the fee, so there's no cost. Doesn't give all that much benefit as I already have TSA Precheck, but still, if it's free, why not!

Lets see how long it takes for approval…

    • +1

Hell yeah, I had a US friend of mine give me his card details for the application so no fee haha.

TSA Precheck is the main reason for myself as MPC does half the job when it comes to expediting US arrivals.

  • Lol this might be a bargain when they are closing their holes
