PS5 Second Hand Pricing

I haven’t played games in over 18 years but recently looking to return to console gaming. So I’m quite disconnected from the market dynamic.

Looking on FB marketplace for a cracker second hand deal and every second hand console is priced so high, with a minimal discount from retail pricing. Absolutely no deals around me.

What’s the go? Are people really buying second hand with no warranty for $50 off full retail? Anyone successfully negotiated a big discount?

  • Buy used from eb games?

    • I’ll check it out. Do they give a warranty?

They do, though I just looked and they are barely cheaper than new, normally their used stuff is reasonably priced.

  • You just missed out on the largest sale of past 6 months being christmas/boxing day. If you want to buy second hand have a price in mind and offer the people on fb marketplace - as long as it is not ridiculously low they might accept it or negotiate.

    • Fair enough.

Do you think there will be another sale anytime soon? I’m after a PS5 Pro? I find that you can buy them new for 1190 or second hand for 1100. I guess price is subject to the buyer and seller but I feel like if I’m buying with no warranty it’s only worth 800 in good condition. Do you think I’m being unreasonable?

      • The PS5 Pro was only released two or so months ago. Every single console should be within warranty and you should be able to get a receipt for it. It's also considered a premium product with few sales, so $100 discount seems very reasonable.

If you want a proper discount you should probably look for the PS5 as that is closer to 5 years old now.

Only you can make the decision, but the PS5 will play all games, the Pro just makes them look a tiny bit better but probably not noticeable for most people.

      • If you’re after a pro, you’ve got diddly squat of getting a discount. Anyone who’s selling is either a scalper, scammer, or someone who regrets it and wants to recoup as much money as they can.

Could get a PS5 Pro, if it'll be 18 years before you upgrade it again.

    • What do you mean? Sorry I can’t read between the lines as I’m not versed in the technicals

Don’t buy a used console. Far too many scams, defective or banned units being flogged and no warranty/consumer guarantee is a big no-no.

    • Fair enough … makes sense. Warranty is a biggie.

Considering you haven't gamed for 18 years, do you really need the Pro or are you being pulled in by the marketing they've used? Save yourself $500 and buy the standard version.

    • True. But aren’t the graphics better on pro?

I’m buying it specifically for GT7 with a sim setup. Nothing else. I tried a friend’s and he has pro, so I was just going to buy everything he has.

I've been dreaming of buying a pro for GT7 to help with the pop-in of textures and car model detail in when playing in VR.

      • I mean they’re probably slightly better, but at the same time is it $500 better? Once upon a time the PlayStation 3 had the best ever graphics. If you constantly need the best of everything you’re going to go broke. Personally I’d go with the standard PS5 and then in 5 years upgrade to the 6 if you feel it necessary.

        • Absolutely wrong here. GT7 is immensely improved on the Pro. If someone is going to play specifically GT7 then the Pro will be well worth it. I know because I do exactly that.

          • @plmko: That’s good to know. What type of setup do you have?

  • Plenty of cheap PS5s on Facebook marketplace. Just have to pay $50 deposit to secure the item…

    Plenty of dreamers that's why….

  • Ended up just buying a PS5 standard
