Emerald Ranger Smoke Alarms Battery Operated | Radio Frequency 10-Year Battery (5-Pack) $299.99 Delivered @ Smoke Alarms

70

Based in Queensland, I was seeking interconnected smoke alarms with radio frequency capabilities. I recently discovered a bundle pack of five smoke alarms that includes a free controller. The bundle is currently 33% off, resulting in a price of $299.99 (5x Wireless Interconnected Smoke Alarms Pack With Free Remote Controller). Shipping was complimentary within Queensland for me and typically takes approximately 4-7 days.
Additionally, I conducted an online search and found Lighting Illusion in Queensland selling the smoke alarms individually for approximately $88 each.

Learned something new today - in addition to hardwired alarms, 10 year batteries are also compliant for rental properties in Queensland.

    • You just about have to rebuild your entire house every couple of years in Vic!
For smoke alarms, it must be hardwired, interconnected, and tested and backup battery replaced every 12 months.

    • Oh, interesting! I was being pressured to spend $1000s on hardwiring in our new house, but sounds like this set will be suitable?

    Riiiiight…

    • Lol I know right. If you really wanted to have at least semi-concealed alarms, you'd probably end up having to buy Cavius ones, but those cost quite a lot more. I ended up getting a pack of 10 of these (yeah ok the house is a bit big), and tbh, it's not concealed in any way, but no one really notices them. Remote is freaking handy - sure beats having to have a stick lying around to poke at them on the ceiling. Whatever you end up getting, remote = highly recommended in my book.

For Queenslanders, Homewatch at Shailer Park have the individual units for $55 each (and are pretty great guys, to boot).

This deal is a few bucks cheaper, however, if you want all 5 plus the remote control.

I bought these for $279 a month or so ago and they seem okay….not had anything set them off as yet so I'm hoping they'll do the job if the time comes.

The remote is a great idea. Keep it next to the stove to easily silence them whenever I stuff up the dinner.

These newer style sensors shouldn't be 'false alarmed' by questionable cooking. Just when it's gone far enough that silencing isn't your largest concern.

      • +1

The other bonus is you can test the alarms with the remote too. Very handy in houses like Queenslanders with 11ft ceilings.

    • If cooking sets off your alarm, your alarm is in the wrong place.

I've had these throughout my house the past 3 years.
Replaced 3 hard wired and a battery operated, plus added another battery… and the remote.
They've been great. Set off a few times due to meat cooking / smoky kitchen. Having a remote is handy!

If you need to mix and match, they're generally around the $55 for battery, $65 for mains, and $27 for remote from a few different shops.

  • Looks like Bunnings is cheaper for 6 than all the other links above - https://www.bunnings.com.au/firepro-interconnectable-10-year…

More interesting is this new model here - https://www.bunnings.com.au/firepro-interconnectable-wi-fi-p…
Seems to be the same model but the master unit has WIFI which would be much better use for any false alarms at 2am or while at work. Still seems to interconnect over the same base frequency for all the units but the master has an additional wifi module that is also battery powered.

EDIT: The units I was coming to post are the ones I actually have which are these - https://www.bunnings.com.au/firepro-photoelectric-interconne…

I have had two of them fail early though at 5 years, out of a total 9 units in my house. I got the original 9 from another supplier who doesn’t have stock anymore, so substituted in the Bunnings ones above which were cheaper and still interconnected with the different brand. Units look exactly the same though so just out of the same factory in China (manufacturer is Siterwell).

  • Are there any Vic complaint battery smoke alarms that connect to WIFI to get notifications etc.. ?

  • Not sure about other states but in Victoria any home built after 1997 requires hardwired smoke alarms (with battery backup). These won't be compliant.
Also are required to be interconnected since 2014.

    • VBA https://www.vba.vic.gov.au/consumers/guides/smoke-alarms

      Interconnected smoke alarms can be:
hard-wired (which should be installed by an electrician), or
wireless interconnected smoke alarms powered by a ten-year lithium battery (which can be easily installed without requiring an electrician).

  • Cheaper here on EBay, minus any eBay discount code or voucher you have. Looks like the ones mentioned in other comments (from Bunnings, Amazon), cheaper and also complies Aust standard, plus you can add a wifi module and Tuya app compatible:
