Opinions - S25 Ultra Upgrade Options from S24 Ultra Bought Brand New a Week Ago

I recently(a week ago) bought S24 ultra from OW and then came to know that S25 is launching. I have opened the packaging but haven't setup the phone with my account and apps. If I just want to buy S25 instead, what are the options?
1. Can Samsung let me upgrade by just paying the difference ? (Not the trade in discount)
2. Can I ask OW to upgrade?
3. Can I just return S24 as change of mind with original packaging and buy S25 brand new from wherever it's better priced.
Or any better way for this?

Note: I am not changing the phone every time a new one is released but asking this question because I just now bought N version when N+1 is just next door. So if there is a good way to get N+1. If it was like couple of months old, I would not have thought to change it.

I know S26, S27 … will keep on coming. So pointless to put them as comment unless you have a real helpful workaround.

Yes yes …long as receipt and reset phone …make sure all looks new. I’ve returned opened just said wasn’t suitable and refunded me. With receipt of course twice done this

  • Get the magnifying glass out to scan for dead pixels or something so you can refund under warranty.

  • lol, hindsight is a bitch.

  • try taking back? see what they say. Phones come out every year so not a surprise, did you get a good deal?

How did you not know about s25?

wait until you hear about the S26

  • Should have listened to the typical advice on Ozbargain - Yeah yeah yeah, wait for the n+1 model..

You should be checking the release cycles and release dates and balancing price with where the phone is in its lifecycle.

just wait for the S30 I hear it's even better.

wait until the S25 is announced, and see what the trade in value is of the S24. They always throw in all those trade in bonuses. Who knows, the S25 might just look different and have the same specs as the S24 and you might want to keep it

Most emphatical answer and I like it!

To this date, I am still not sure what has changed substantially between S22U to S25U so yes, maybe you don't need S25U.

      • Samsung's refusal to adopt mmwave on their UE.

        • Whats benefit of mmwave on UE?

          • @ATTS: Telstra and optus have invested in mmwave in various places including the cbd, which would give you access to 800mhz of fr2 spectrum.

Spectrum in the fr1 range is quite limited for telstra in cbd areas.

  • Receipt or it didnot happen

  • Officeworks have a 30 day change of mind policy which says (among other things).

“The item is in re-saleable condition, including its original packaging (if any), is unused and as sold”

The question is whether “unused and as sold” means “unopened”.

But seeing it doesn’t actually say “unopened”, I’d get down there and ask them…

They may be more willing to be flexible if you agree to take store credit (then wait for S25 and either buy it or re-buy an S24).

There is 0 chance a open phone is in a re-salable condition. If you go to ow to buy a phone and they present you with an open box would you take it?

      • 50% off and we have a deal!

  • Once you broke the seal, there's no change of mind anymore. You can start selling your S24 ultra in the hope you don't loss as much advertising it as brand new phone with broken seal OR you can wait till pre-order start usually Samsung, JB, and OW will have trade-in bonus during pre-order period. FYI, during pre-order period Samsung usually have really good deal, you'd expect 30-40% off RRP if you buy it during pre-order. If this is the case, you can just buy a new S25 ultra, then sell your S24 ultra in the marketplace and still not losing any money.

  • Just to close the loop. OW accepted the phone with smile and refunded the amount. No question asked.
I told them the situation genuinely that I had opened the box and turned the phone on but did not put the sim card or activated any of google services account.
