  • Let's go!

Keen to hear pricing and release date, but I'll be there on day one.

    • From the design of it, my expectations are that:
      - Standard NS and Lite may be still available following NS2's releases
      - More expensive than OLED, and it's likely replacing NS OLED models, maybe at $599 or $649?

Since the experience event is on 10-11 May, release date will be after that. Late May the soonest, or holiday season the latest.

      • From the design of it, my expectations are that:
        - Standard NS and Lite may be still available following NS2's releases
        - More expensive than OLED, and it's likely replacing NS OLED models, maybe at $599 or $649?

It is definitely a replacement to the entire original Switch system. As in it will have new games and services not available to the original switch.
The original and lite Switch might still be sold for a while and the OLED discontinued. In the same way the PS4 slim was (or is?) still available well into PS5 lifecycle but the PS4 PRO was discontinued early on

        • That's right, I mean OLED will be discontinued earlier than other Switch models, which will fill the gap as last-gen console on cheaper prices.

Just saw Experience events last all the way to 1 June in Seoul, so actual release would certainly be mid June to July the earliest.

      • I might have been too conservative. Leaks suggest a MSRP of US$399, which is the equivalent of at least AU$699 with GST.

    Woo! Slightly bigger Switch!

    Very excited.

Nintendo Switch 2 Direct slated for 2025 Feb 4

Nah, the direct is 2nd April, not Feb 4th. You linked the “Nintendo of America” video, where the date is shown as m.d.yyyy

    • +4

Oh damn. I got excited for 4th Feb too completely forgetting that antiquated ass backwards system america unjustifiably defend.

  • -1

Damn! You beat me to it! Been too busy rewatching the reveal

  • Backward compatible with both digital and physical Switch Games.

    • +1

"Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be fully supported on or fully compatible with switch 2."

I think this makes it difficult to sell the switch 1 itself until we get more details.

On the plus side, we avoid the Wii U naming fiasco.

    • Given there's no sign of IR camera, games like Labo, Ring Fit, 1-2-Switch and Brain Training for NS may not fully work (or not being supported at all?).

Seems the mouse-like gameplay to the new Joy-Con is confirmed.

      • So we won't be able to use our old controllers on the Switch 2, if Ring Fit won't work?

        • Depends - there’s no technical reason (definitely support Bluetooth) NS2 can’t pair old Joy-Con (like Xbox One/Series controller, DS4/DS5 are all backward compatible), but you never know if they won’t make it compatible on a software level.

          • @xmagic: Maybe they plan on releasing Ring Fit Adventure 2 or remastered anyway.

        • The incompatibility scenario is probably more for those with a Switch 2, Ring Fit game and no existing joycons.

Switch 2 joycons don't have IR camera to measure pulse and won't fit into the joycon holders.

NS2 Melbourne experience - 10 May to 11 May (Saturday and Sunday) to Nintendo account members (no NSO required) at CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park

Open registration: 18 Jan 11am AEDT to midnight 26 Jan at https://www.nintendo.com/au/nintendo-switch-2-experience/

  • And that is a new Mario Kart, with 12 racers at the same time.

    • with 12 racers at the same time.

It appears there might be 24 racers at a time.

There are 24 racer grid markings on the track at 1:41 of the video.

      • Apparently you can see at least 15 on the screen in the last frame. So maybe 24 racers will be true. Would shake up the formula that's for sure.

Donkey Kong Country Returns Nintendo Switch $0 when you trade in 2 selected Switch, Xbox, PS5 games.
Sadly not many games qualify anymore as the game has to be valued at $10 or higher (before EB member bonus trade value)
eg EB Games sell Redfall on Xbox Series X for $98 second hand and the trade value is $8.00.

  • Unlike Microsoft and their expanded iFixit partnership for easier self repairs I'm expecting nothing like that for the Switch 2-official repair path by sending it Nintendo.

Man, I'm excited 'bout the Switch 2.

  • Shoulda been called "The New Nintendo Switch"

  • Damn I too thought the date meant Feb 4th. 11 weeks until the full reveal? Uggh

    • and then a few months before its actually released.. and then scalpers will buy them all out and sell at inflated price

      It's the circle of life

      • Scalping main Nintendo products is high risk. So good luck to them if they do.

Still using my switch (now modded) purcahsed from kogan in 2017 hopefully they'll have another deal so I can use my credit card credit lol

    • -3

You should've sold it. I got $480 for mine last year.

      • +1

But I'm still playing games on it…? lol also the games are from sailing the seas which I won't be able to do on the switch 2.

        • -4

          Emulate on PC.

Metroid Prime 4 not comming to Switch 1 was my sign to bail out before that ship sank.

Edit: just checked the used prices, damn I got out good.

          • +2

            @plmko:

Metroid Prime 4 not comming (sic) to Switch 1

            Source?

    • +1

      Nice one!

I got mine around the same time for $373 from Kogan as well. Still looks pristine and chugs along well. Not modded.

  • Would it be dumb to buy the current Switch if it gets discounted well? First console for a 9 year old.
