  • Does anyone have experience with Linux and this kind of device, I am using Debian 12.

Just ensure you've loaded the modules that support the Dell Dock and DisplayLink. Your mileage may vary as it's linux. Anything could be configured on it. I got this to work on a PC running Gentoo Linux.

I have a D6000 and running pop_os! (mostly an Ubuntu fork) and had trouble with the newer 6+ kernel. Hooked up to my HP Elitebook G6. Ended up reading around and using an evdi driver from github, rebuilding with dkms. Could be resolved now, but I update it somewhat frequently when things are a bit funny.

I switched to a HP G5 usb-c dock (I mostly wanted the physical power button) and it is pretty bad. Can't drive 2 monitors without artefacts), while the D6000 had no trouble. It won't turn the monitors back on after an extended sleep (they come back after unplugging/replugging the dock, but the network port drops off).

Overall I think all of these docks are trouble. At work they use the WD15 and WD19s and they have no end of trouble too.

I imagined a thunderbolt dock would work better, something about DisplayLink vs direct display port expansion, but I am really skeptical.

  • I prefer the Dell WD22TB or WD19TB, but this is a great price for a D6000.

  • Can i use this with a desktop as well?

Thanks, I stole borrowed one of these from work during covid, still using it.

    • Haha everyone does that

I like how you can just setup everything up on the dock (monitors, LAN, etc) then simply insert the USB cable to have it all up and running, with a bonus that the USBC connection also charges the laptop, so basically just 1 connection. Quite good for those who goto the office and also WFH.

    • Yep that’s what’s awsome about these and the better version which is the WD models

  • Interested, but would this work with a portable monitor that draws its power from USB-C? On my desk I have a regular HDMI monitor, a laptop and one portable monitor that I can pack up and bring for remote work.

    • doubt it

    • I just tested this and you can draw power from the front USB-C port + a separate connection to the HDMI mini port of the portable monitor. You may need an adapter for the display output of course for mini HDMI to HDMI (cable) to DisplayPort (Adapter). I have a similar scenario and keep a portable monitor in my bag.

      • Display signal and power for my monitor run through the same USB-C port actually. Anyway, OOS. You snooze you lose I guess.

Any recommendations for usb C hub with tons of usb C ports for T5 SSDs, has AC adapter, and connection to Mac Thunderbolt?

I have a desktop and no use case for a dock. Having fomo. Will buy a laptop so I can use the dock.

    • I have a laptop (around 99% used as a desktop). Would not recommend either a dock or a laptop. You ain't missing nothing.

  • As a note, I'd recommend updating the firmware as these are new old stock.

What's the process to update the firmware on these?

    • Follow the link in the above comments it’s just a download and install whilst it’s plugged in.

      • Thank you

  • A couple of questions:

    1. My work laptop (built in graphics - I believe Iris something), is limited to 3 displays total. I believe this dock uses DisplayLink for the two DP ports (and alt-mode for the hdmi?) - does that mean I would be able to use 4 displays (3 external + built in laptop screen)? Ie. Does the use of DisplayLink allow me to exceed the laptop's maximum number of displays? Or does it just allow for more screens than connections (but otherwise total number of displays is still limited by the graphics chip)? (I don't know much about DisplayLink, aside from a vague understanding that it allows for additional cpu-run(?) displays, or something like that.)

    2. I'm currently running:
      -5K2K (I believe 75hz, but 60kz is fine)
      -4K (60hz)
      -Full HD (60hz) laptop screen
Would I be able to run all of those, plus a 3440x1440 (can run up to 144hz, but 30hz is probably fine)? Or what resolution would I be limited to, alongside the 5K2K + 4K combo?

Basically, I want to know if buying one of these will allow me to add a 4th display to my setup! Lol.

  • Got one of these I take too and from the office, getting a second to just leave on my desk at home.

  • I would strongly recommend using a DisplayPort dock rather than one of these. The chances of your Windows laptop not supporting 2-3 screens with DP Alt-Mode over USB-C are very low.

Some older laptops will run into DisplayPort bandwidth issues with 4K screens however the CPU load of driving 4K screens with DisplayLink is also not viable on an older laptop.

    OOS :(

    • be positive .. you save $89

still allows you to add to cart, create a user account and then says OOS.. data collection in progress..

    • More likely that you had it in your cart and it sold out during your checkout.

      • please read my comment .. it still allows to add, create user account after which it says OOS..

        • looks like you have fixed it now.

      • I also have the same issue where I signed up and had it in my cart, but was told no stock. Are you stocking more?

    • +1

I just did this, not happy jan.

  • Do these still work if you're missing skin?

    • That’s not possible. Send a message through to customer service if you have any issues.

  • Any more stock ?

I have one of these on my desk from work and aside from the obvious use with the work laptop, this thing does great connected to a phone as a display output. I had my old note 20 ultra die on me (oled kicked the bucket one day) and needed to get some data off it, connected it up to the dock, typed in my pin (no chance of doing that with a dead screen) and I was off to the races - recovered a crypto account and a few other important pieces of data that didn't automatically backup.
When my wife wants to use a desk to do her photo editing, she just unplugs the work laptop and hooks in there with her Lenovo laptop and it charges and all the peripherals just work which is nice and convenient.
Lastly, hooking this up to a phone gives you wired ethernet, which when transferring data from a phone to a PC / NAS makes things a lot less painful.

  • Let us know if anymore stock thanks

  • I think I have this one. Wanted the version up.

  • Aww missed it. Hopefully there's more stock

  • Great dock for m1 MacBook Air that has gimped external display support

I use it to drive 3840x1600 & 2560x1440 plus the internal screen

Any chance you would drop the price on the refurb stock to be cheaper than this? Seems like u have the demand here already

    • Maybe not on any of the other stuff but we do have about 1000 surface pro docks. Might have a look at those.

  • Was very tempted, but what I really need is a KVM switch. And the only one that'll do me is Level1Techs. But it is $800AUD.

  • get it on fb marketplace for $50. most companies give out this model to employees during covid and a lot of them selling it online due to go back to office.

  • The Dell D6000 is a solid dock. I own 2 of them.

I am thinking of upgrading to something that has Thunderbolt as well as DisplayLink. Basically so I can use the same docking station for my home and work laptop, and maximize it.

I found this one which seems to be the best value at the moment..
-Has both Thunderbolt and Displaylink tech,
    -can go upto 8k 30hz for a single or 4x 4k 60hz.
-160w power adapter / 96w charging through thunderbold port
    -ample ports/compatability

Only $350 with ($100 off coupon from amazon)
    https://www.amazon.com/Thunderbolt-DisplayLink-Monitors-Tran…

Let me know what you guys think..

  • Damn missed out!

  • Had these for a while. It's excellent. They still have the refurbs for a decent price…

  • Any chance there would be more stock coming? thanks

  • any idea how to best upgrade the firmware if you only have a Mac?
