Battery life awful on these, only a 57Wh battery with weak Meteor Lake CPUs.

    • According to this https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-G12-… it doesn't seem that bad. It can idle at 3.8 w and managed 17hours 49min on the idle test. Then again, its hard to say what normal usage looks like.

    • Was there an X1 carbon that was better spec'd for the price?

The gen 13 with the lunar lake processors have recently released, although much more expensive than this price. Should see much better battery life than the gen 12, although still only 57Wh battery. If you need a thinkpad, then this is a good price. Im willing to wait for a discount on a lunar lake laptop for battery life.

  • Thanks OP, got one. I travel a lot with a bicycle and this one seems sturdy enough and the OLED display would help outdoors.

Have the gen 3 and still going strong after 10 years (put in some new thermal paste and an 860 EVO). Worth every penny.

    • Pretty sure it's not a touch screen. Great screen though.

  • Hard to view the details viewing on a phone. Lenovo.

  • Ah that was quick, pop up told me it was out of stock and couldn't be added to cart anymore.

Great deal, if I hadn't just bought a Framework I'd be all over this.

    • can i ask how that is going and would you recommend over prebuild laptops thank you

      • I got the Framework 16 DIY edition, and I love it. I bought the RAM & SSD separately from Amazon as it's ridiculously over-priced from Framework. Bought a cheap - less than $10 Windows 11 Pro retail (don't buy OEM) license online & registered it in my Microsoft account (Microsoft support confirmed I can use it on unlimited devices & new OS versions in future. One at a time obviously). I'm not a gamer so didn't get the dGPU module

You don't need to be tech-oriented to build the DIY, virtually anyone could do it. They have great written instructions with a short video of each step. It took me about 20 minutes to build it going slow & methodical. Build quality is better than I expected & moveable modules line up well & are flush. Maybe I got lucky though.

The input deck is easy & fast to move modules around & reconfigure, which you can do without shutting down the laptop. So e.g I moved the keyboard from centered to left aligned, removed 2 LED Matrix modules & put in the numpad module, within 2 minutes while the laptop was on & running. They're all magnetic & snap in nicely. The expansion card modules are even quicker & easier to move or replace.

Been using it daily for about a week. It's a big laptop & relatively heavy but that was expected. My only complaint is the numpad doesn't use the keyboard backlighting. That's minor but might be annoying for someone using the numpad a lot in the dark.

It's expensive even if you BYO RAM, SSD & OS. You can definitely do better specs to cost ratio. Hopefully that will even out over time with upgrades, & personally I'm happy to pay a bit more to support a company big in the right to repair movement (also buying an iFixit toolkit). Gives me a good feeling that I built it too. I plan to use this laptop for a very long time by upgrading & repairing as needed. They have demonstrated form, been around for years now & the original Framework 13 has gone through 3 cycles of motherboard & CPU upgrades successfully. I'm looking forward to see what modules they come up with for the expansion bay shell. Already released a dual nvme module, now you can put up to 4 SSD's in this laptop (not including storage expansion card modules).

I'm happy with the purchase, definitely recommend over pre-built.

        • How much did you pay? How more heavy is it.?

          • @Raj09: It's modular so it depends on what configuration you choose. Just go to their site https://frame.work click on Laptops, choose 13 or 16, Select DIY version & click Configure. You can see the prices for all the configurations. Or instead of Configure click on Learn More to see all the details & specs.

  • It's good to alert people to good deals however these will undoubtably just end up being sold by resellers on Gumtree, Facebook and eBay with the price jacked up. If the general public can't buy them because of these flogs then it's against the spirit of this site. Laptops, Alcohol, Vitamins, Shoes you name they have ruined it for ordinary people looking for a bargain.
