G-Shock Move Heart Rate Watch DWH5600-1A2, $319.20 Shipped (Was $449) @ WatchSuperstore

SUPER20

Hey All. I know this watch isn't going to be loved by everybody, but I was absolutely keen on the MIP display, and I see no word of any new MIP displays for standard 5600's. I'm going to turn off alot of the health tracking, and just use the over night sleep and heart monitor.

The big standouts for me are:
Bluetooth for notifications (I usually keep my phone on silent)
Vibration
MIP display (e-ink)
Solar power (not tough solar)
20bar waterproof

Cheapest I could find on Amazon was in the $500's minimum.
If this is for you, bless ya.

Pretty feature rich more details here:
    https://shockbase.org/watches/watch_dyn.php?model=DW-H5600-1…

Not a bad deal considering the price, seems like we'll be waiting a while for a basic square with mips and solar, without all the smart junk.

Trend to agree I'd turn most of that off too as the G-Shock Move App really sucks.

    • The consensus from the Casio forums predicts it won't happen for a very long time, as it would make their existing line-up redundant. I haven't owned a Casio in forever, but after seeing them everywhere here in Thailand, i got the urge to buy in. Can't find it under $375 here, and thats on an online store. Im looking forward to getting my paws on it.

      • Yeah makes sense, I can't see it happening either to be honest. I got a MIPS GDB200 and run it in AP mode, doesn't have the same I iconic look and feel as the original squares. Good pool watch though haha.

Squares are the best, I don't necessarily care as much as I did about solar and Bluetooth and It's cool to collect a few and a lot of the older icon models. They are are fairly inexpensive and fun (but still about double what they were 5-10y ago).

Sounds like a good pickup, enjoy!

I can absolutely see the joy in collecting them. I have an old Nixon watch that I will likely keep using for the water, but I reckon this 5600 will be my everyday watch. I have a Seiko 5, but it drives me insane not being able to find the sweet spot in setting the automatic timing dial, so that's going to hung up for special occasions only.

          • @StackableSnacks: Yeah not overly expensive, fun and a god tier brand. I still don't want too many as it's hard to wear them all but well worth having several Quartz grab and gos in your collection.

Autos, is look for a no day no date (like Field watches or skin divers)and you can set them real quick.

  • Decent looking deal but it seems like if you're really interested in your heart rate and you want to wear a G-Shock, you're better off with a basic square and a chest strap HR monitor (you're always better off with a chest strap HR monitor).

    A G-Shock with heart rate?

Mmm a Garmin Instinct immediately came to mind. Granted the solar version only comes on sale occasionally

  • Holy crap, since when is over $300 for a G-Shock considered a bargain??

phew.. just looked it up, still can get them for sub100 - guess heart rate capability somehow adds $200

    • The asking price at RRP is pretty crazy. I found it hard to pull the trigger at $319, but it had the specifics I wanted, and it was the cheapest I could find. There are some great g-shocks out for much less!

    • Bluetooth, solar, heart rate together would add a lot to the cost. You would struggle to find a sub $150 solar g-shock.

  • Just recently got the GBD200SM-1A5. Has a step counter and that is about it for any "smart" features. Honestly, they are just better to be considered as sturdy watches that have great readability outdoors. Style is subjective. Otherwise, just get a xiaomi.

    • Yeah, that's exactly how I'm looking at it too. It's a good looking square G-Shock in negative that's easy to read.

  • I have the gbd-200 and I love that fact that it counts steps and has a long lasting battery. I hate the app and the notifications on it as you can either have all notifications or none. Surely they could fix that in their app so easily.

This one having solar is definitely a plus, the heart rate does nothing for me as all the physical activities I do I can't wear a watch anyway. What is the difference between solar and tough solar though?

    • I found this which explains it well:
      https://www.reddit.com/r/gshock/s/ykKABzFreU

Tough solar can rely solely on the sun {light} for a full charge. 'Solar powered' is basically 'solar assisted'. Still has a cable and needs to be plugged in like a phone to charge.

I'd just turn all that smart stuff off as the app does suck, and shame they can't do a simple time sync to the 'Casio watches' app. Better off getting a Fitbit or Garmin, I've got the former and it's minimal enough to wear on other hand and still wear traditional watches.
Otherwise an apple watch or Garmin would replace all watches.

  • Is there any advantage to this over a Garmin Instinct 2? Just cause it's a g-shock?

    • I wouldn't rely on this for all of the health features. Alot of people seem to say they are significantly less accessible outside of the app directly. If health is on your radar, I imagine anything is better. To me this is a G-Shock with bt and solar enough to power the basics, and turn everything else off.

      • All wearables would vary but wouldn't rely on G-Shock at all for that stuff. Even a Fitbit charge 5/6 would blow Casio out of the water (hardware and
        software).

Usually best to get from Amazon then return for free.

  • Too much tech. Also fact that it tracks heart rate means there's the bulky uncomfortable sensor pressed hard against your wrist. No thx.

    • Yeah it's called the 'paw print'.

  • They all suck at sleep tracking . I might look at this tho for the HR tracking as got allsorts going on there and when in AFIB I often don't know apparently.
