I live overseas and planning to return to Oz for a quick visit, and I wanted to buy a new phone off Aliexpress before returning (they don't deliver to where I am unfortunately). It's asking for 10% GST at check out so I'm wondering do they provide a tax invoice which can then be used for TRS at the airport?
I found some old articles online that seems to suggest they don't have an ABN so you can't do TRS, just wondering if that's still current…
And if that's true, how is it even ok for them to collect GST? Are they even passing on the GST or just pocketing it themselves 🙄
Admittedly I've been gone for a while, so wasn't even aware these online platforms charge GST now
Not eligible for such a purchase anyway.
Claims for imported goods
A condition of making a TRS claim is that goods must be supplied within Australia.
Foreign goods can be eligible for a TRS refund if the retailer imports the goods into Australia themselves, and then supplies the goods to a customer.
Goods purchased overseas and imported to Australia by you, where import duty and taxes are paid are not eligible.
