Krisflyer - Managing Expiring Points

I was wondering how do you guys manage krisflyer points?

I have never used my points. During covid, all expired and went to zero.

I have around 17,000 points now and expiring in 3 months. I do have a trip in March.

Can we use points for shopping while transiting in Singapore or on plane in flight? I read their shipping fees is very high.

Or anyone used them for hotel bookings?

  • Yea the expiry is annoying. I ended up burning some points on the krisflyer shop for some alcohol. Found it to be good value for money. As well, there may be the option to deliver the product to you on the flight

    • How did you buy the alcohol? I mean on flight, at Singapore airport, or pre-order. I'm trying to understand how can use at krisshop without paying shipping fees

      • Pre-order. But it has to be within only a month of the flight date

        • Thanks a lot

You could transfer them to Velocity. Better than letting them expire.

My thoughts too. The transfer rate is poor, 1.55 Krisflyer points for 1 Velocity, but it's better than losing them altogether.
Velocity points don't expire so long as there is some activity on your account in the past 18 months - there are plenty of ways to earn velocity points in Aus.

OP, unless you fly with Singapore Airlines frequently, you might want to consider an alternative star alliance partner to credit your future points to, to avoid this situation again.

  • This is why I don't collect Krisflyer points.

  • You can also extend the expiry of them using your own Krisflyer miles. That's only a small percentage of miles you will loose instead of losing them altogether.

    • Or you can pay a small dollar fee to extend by six months.
