Help Identifying Leaking Valve

Hello, my recycling water valve that is attached to the side of my house is leaking out the blue plastic section as you can see in the uploaded photo. It is dripping about 3 drops a second and looks a bit split.

I am trying to identify what this is called so I can talk to a plumber but also would like to know if this is something I could replace myself. Is there a name for this part?

Thanks!

  • Google "water pressure valve" and try to find which one it is. Good luck.

It's a pressure limiting/reducing valve. Can be replaced easily just make sure the flow direction is correct and the pressure rating matches.

Bunnings sell them for $60-$70 bucks.

LPT: if you're not confident using shifters or applying teflon tape correctly then just employ a plumber.

    • There's a correct way to apply teflon tape?

No, but there are many incorrect ways :-)

Pink for gas, white for water. Not sure why people need to do a 4 year apprenticeship for that.

Yes - same direction to the thread

      • Real plumbers use hemp.

  • Write down or take a pic of any details on the valve and your local plumbing place (or Bunnings) will probably have a replacement. Probably requires a plumber to replace it though if you obey the rules.

  • You have 2 valves.
    1 x ball valve connected to 1 x PRV.
    Which one is leaking?

    • You have 2 valves.

      I have more than two.

And everyone here says you're heartless.

  • Take a new photo or two. Close up and CLEAR of Valve body, and just a hint… show the Blue Cap clearly if that is the damaged/leaking part in the fist place. Preferably a dry photo of said fault as well. Just in case of many or obsolete models.

Then go to Hardware or Plumbing Supply stores and ask in-store experts for detailed advise based on those 2 awesome photos..

Or do what every other lazy bum does is post a poor photo to FakeBook and ask all the keyboard experts. One on them will have the same issue, one will have repaired the same issue, one will be a plumber, one will be an ex plumber, and one will be unrelated to the aunty of the brother of the guy who live next door to where a plumber used to live.
