It only works on this specific model. Doesn't even work on the standard V15 model.
that sucks
Only sucks on compatible models
I know someone with this model, they say the submarine attachment sucks, and not in a good way.
It also doesn't actually suck, it just rolls. The actual vacuum doesn't engage, it just draws power to power the roller motor in the submarine attachment.
@buckethat: The vac is fantastic but I wouldn't bother with the submarine attachment. I have found it to be pretty useless.
@buckethat: As an owner of this vac, yep, the wet roller is freakin' useless, it's just a spinning roller, which absorbs and cleans with whatever you put in the fiddly bottle, and it essentially attempts to clean the floor with the same dirty roller and fluid. If you press too hard, the roller stops, and boy does it get hot.
It's quicker to just get one of those cheapo mops with the velcro stick on cleaning pads and squeezy bottle on the pole that you just squirt with a trigger on the handle. Bought one from Kogan for $2 or $4 (the deal was on here somewhere), but that does a better job, it's easier to use and clean up is a breeze.
This Dyson sucks (that it does well), but the wet floor cleaning aspect of it just doesn't work (epic fail) and it's a right pain in the behind pulling it all apart to clean the roller, bottle, and then have it dry before re-assembling.
@Graffin: Yeah mate of mine who has it told me the same. I ended up going with the Gen5detect complete for like $950 a few months back, love the thing.
It does work on the later V15 with later firmware versions.
are you sure? I have researched and it only works on the v15 submarine models? Do you have a link or something?

It sounds like you need to install the submarine DLC for it to work.
According to Dyson, the firmware in the v15 is not upgradeable, and the Submarine head isn't available as a separate purchase anyway.
"Limited functionality:
While some minor adjustments might be possible through app updates, significant feature upgrades or compatibility changes with new accessories are generally not achievable through firmware updates on existing V15 models."@ayoole: Correct it is not upgradable.
The original V15 did not have this function at all, and so the V15s was released with a new firmware that supported the submarine head (by turning off suction).
However there was a comment previously from a dyson employee that this same firmware was also being used as standard on the later V15 vacuums.
Get this for mopping instead. Much more effective than the Dyson submarine head.
Have one of the sharks. It’s pretty awesome.
Thanks for recommendation will check it out. I have the normal v15 and don't want to spend another $800 just to mop so if this does mopping better its a win win
What is the quality like in terms of spare parts? I've had some horrible experiences with the parent company's brands. In that regard I'd normally trust Dyson 1000% more, so that would be my main concern.
I'd agree, except that you should expect a replacement submarine extension to cost more than this entire steam mop. I've had to get a replacement part from Dyson previously (lost a tiny wheel and had to buy a whole new brush head). They sent an ill-fitting part first (which, if nothing else, lost a lot of suction which they claimed would not affect performance), after which their customer service helped get a correct part.
I guess in this particular case, fitness for purpose and price should factor into the equation.
@Make it so: That's definitely worth factoring in and I did consider that too. Luckily (touch wood!) I've never needed any spare parts for Dyson.. they've been indestructible. NutraNinja on the other hand… Very, very destructable.. I've gone through way too many spare parts and have up on them… Haha..
Ha, this is Dyson… planned obsolescence is in their blood. They change things purely so they don't work between models.
Pretty sad given Dyson was founded on not needing to buy bags for your vacuum.
Thanks OP for posting this
I've been watching/wanting to have an interchangeable wet/dry vacuum but unfrotunately the submarine wet mop attachment seems to have received mixed reviews over its effectiveness :/We have this, and the submarine thing is not very good. It does not clean very well, and the attachment itself is a hassle to clean. My wife (who had asked for it) got me to buy a steam mop instead, while the submarine head is unused.
The vacuum cleaner itself is good, though we got a different "package" that included a floor stand and fluffy optic head. The fluffy optic head is a must if you are a pet owner, so you can see how much hair there is.
I agree, the mop function does not work properly, it left my tiled floor wet all over
The fluffy optic head is fantastic even if you don’t have pets. At least on hard floors. Not very good on carpet.
Anyway, a very good price. I paid around this a month ago for the V15 detect absolute.
Does the v15s come with the fluffy optic head?
I can't see it in this listing.
Have one of these - in honesty we’ve used the sub head once - but its a good unit regardless of that (but i wouldn’t pay extra from the sub head if you can get a regular V15 cheaper)
Unavailable!
This listing does not come with the hardfloor head attachment. Seems misleading.
Need another Gen5detect deal! Been wanting one for the new house.
I need a new house
Hopefully you don't have to wait 3 years for it to be ready like mine 🤣
Any submarine deals on OzB?
French or US subs?
Russian
Do you guys think the submarine attachment head would work on the Gen5's?
