Would these be better than an IKEA chair? I've been using one of these for the last 5 years and looking to upgrade.

Would be good to know if there are any other better value alternatives in comparison to this SIHOO one. TIA.

    • this one has adjustable armrests, which is a definite plus, for me atleast.

      • Can the height of the armrests be adjusted as well?

        • using armrest is not good

    • Seems to have pretty good reviews on Amazon, one negative is that the headrest isn't height adjustable.

Costco has another model of the same brand for $249, it's $278 on Amazon on special https://www.costco.com.au/Furniture-Mattresses/Office-Furnit…

    • What are your thoughts on the IKEA chair? I am looking to buy one - reviews look decent.

      • It's good. I am 5'10" (178cm) and it's a good height for me. I took the armrests off very early on (and actually threw them away in a cleanout) as I felt like they just got in the way of things, so I wouldn't know what it would be like with them long-term.

I went into IKEA just over the weekend to buy some other things and stumbled upon the office area - tried out a bunch of them and the only decent chair was still this one - none of the chairs from their gaming line really stood out to me at all.

If anything I'd probably get another one of these. I just wish they had adjustable armrests.

          Very helpful. Thank you.

      • I've had the leather version for almost 10 years; they're good.

      • Ikea chairs work, especially for the price. However I've always had issues with longevity, especially padding. I've also had two Ikea chairs break while sitting on them, literally fell backwards.

I'm using an OfficeWorks chair now, the padding is as bouncy as day one and it feels solid.

      • Not that impressed. Thin seat cushion foam went flat within a year (95kg).

Should have spent a little bit more for a real office chair from a proper office furniture store. Those ugly government office chairs aren't nice to look at, but they're designed for industrial levels of sitting

    • I had a similar question except I have the Matchspel chair from Ikea.

I found the arms on the Markus bumped the desk in the store. Unfortunately I forgot about my drawers so the arms on the Matchspel also do in my office :(

  • Beware: the seat cushion might be too soft. Ask the seller.

What would the seller's response to this question be I wonder..

"Don't be such a softc*nt. Harden up and buy it you dog"

Kinda looks like junk watching some YouTube reviews.

At this price point I would think maybe spring for the Ergohuman's from T&W that come on here.

      • People commenting on thos posts about having them 10+ years.

I bet you would be buying 3x these for that endurance and not even factoring comfort difference.

  • Been looking at getting a chair and finally decided to pull the pin. No point stressing about the little things when the chair I am sitting on was a random find in the first place…

    • finally decided to pull the pin

Make sure you stand up first.

  • I got the full mesh one recently. The headrest review is real. It designed as a neck rest and not a headrest. People below 5'5 should be careful.

bought the M57 a month ago, paid $421.99 (Now $339, spewing…) to replacing my expensive Ikea chair. It's be super awesome so far. Mesh seat, adjustable lumber.

    • Did you have the Markus from Ikea? Is it better than the Markus?

      • I've got the JÄRVFJÄLLET, seat is hard as and the rollers are not smooth at all. Just annoying, for some reason it's been designed like this for safety reasons.

    • This chair looks much better, you should probably post this deal!

    • The 57 is considered one of the best Sihoo chairs. The best one is the Doro c300

      • My experience with the M57 was not so great. I had back pain for several weeks after spending just a couple of hours in this chair. My wife didn't like it either, had to sell it. Definitely not for everyone.

    • I found this chair was a little short for me, but this was easily fixed by replacing the gas strut with one from officeworks.

    • Actually it's $329.99 (black) 😢
      Looks nice.

Are these mesh chairs cat proof?

  • I would love some advice from some experts on here. I'm starting to look like the hunchback of Notre Dame and have been told i need a proper office chair for home use. Many talk about the steelcase series chairs and good they are, and if they were like $500-$600 i would buy one, but they are a little bit pricey. I need something with decent lumbar support. I'm not fussed about arm rests or head rest. I've seen this brand pop up a lot on here, but also seen a lot of poor reviews for it. I've been looking at the Desky Pro original brand one WAU 2 Executive High Chair https://mileendofficefurniture.com.au/product/chairs-seating… But not sure if you guys have one that is better. I've seen a lot of talk of the IKEA one but i notice it doesn't have adjustable lumbar support.

    • It might be your mattress.

      • Hopefully \ Technically it shouldn't anymore as i purchased an Ergoflex, but my actual office chair is pretty basic and poor quality.

    • I went through my fair share of office chairs from el cheapo ones from fantastic furniture / office works, to 'gaming chairs' and some ergo chairs that aren't herman miller (because $$$$ also my actual work place herman millers weren't the most comfortable ones ever).

If you're a sweat machine and you don't run cooling (aircon/ fans etc) around your work space; avoid el cheapo vinyl leather chairs, they'll stick and start to peel so fast. (not to mention they get really hot).

Tl;dr - I'd go for a decent mesh chair that encourages you to lean back into it and have good posture as you sit at your desk; depending on how heavy you are - you may need to pick more reputable brands as cheaper brand mesh chairs may start to sag early and be uncomfortable. Currently using Desky Pro+ Ergonomic chair at 82kgs.

Disclaimer: my weight shifted a bit over time so this is based off my comfort. I am also 162cm.

Used this chair for a lil over a year
      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/washington…

Fake leather peeled real fast, cushions felt great for the first 6 months before it started to sag a lot. Ended up buying seat cushions just to keep it comfortable before the arm rests started to also fall a part. Not much ergonomics to it, just more of a plush seat for the short duration it lasted. (it was much cheaper back then when I used it under a different name ~180 AUD). At this time i was ~65kgs and sitting on the chair on average 4-5 hours per day.

Replaced that chair with the IKEA Markus (https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark…) as it was the 'in-thing' chair with a lot of people. Looked professional and was comfortable. Similar to other people; I tossed the arm rest really fast as it was very uncomfortable and intrusive in my setup at my desk. Used it again as primary a gaming chair. The cushions started to flatten around the year mark. Fabric also got nasty (because of my fault and not much the chair). A good deep clean got it nice again but cushion just got too uncomfortable and fabric started to fall apart around the 18month mark. (I still have it now as a spare chair in storage for short duration usage as it hasn't completely failed on me). Hovering 70kg on this chair. Didn't feel like it had good lumbar support for me though.

Swapped to some cheap 'gaming bucket' chair that also came from office works back then, that got shit after 6 months and that also went to the bins after i "upgraded" to another fake leather gaming chair (I didn't learn my lesson) -> https://thunderx3.com/product/tgc15/

Was quite plush and comfy, the lumbar pillow actually was good for extended gaming sessions. head-pillow was pile of rubbish that was tossed a side since it was mildly uncomfortable. Hovering 72kg around this time - again 4-5 hours per day on straight sessions was when I used this chair (not much for work, more for gaming sessions). The thigh support gave way first and started to peel quite badly before the actual wheel castors started to fail and bend. Lasted me almost 3 years before it catastrophically started to fail.

I then upgraded to an Ergohuman (https://www.templeandwebster.com.au/Ergohuman-Plus-Elite-V2-…) and used this chair for about 3 years.

Lumbar support was awesome on this one, as when you lean back against it, it pushes forward ever so slightly, it was mesh all over so it was very comfortable for long sittings. Wheel base was metal so no chance of it failing like the plastic bases I had prior, seat was still very comfy even after 3 years and me getting bigger (up to 80kg). My only gripe with it was the head rest wasn't as comfortable for me being a short person with a smaller body so i couldn't utilise the head and neck rest too well - other part was cleaning it. The amount of dust and dried skin flakes from over time, I found myself cleaning it every week or two just so it doesn't look too gross, it was hard to clean under the base since I didn't have the tools at that time. I ended up giving the chair to my brother and he absolutely loves it. Still feels as good as new even after 3-4 years of usage. I used it as my daily office chair (WFH since covid) so it was a welcomed change of pace - gave it away because i felt a bit of pain on my butt for extended sitting as I got bigger….. or i was looking for an excuse to buy a new chair.

Now I'm using the Desky Pro+ Ergonomic Chair (https://desky.com.au/products/desky-pro-ergonomic-chair?vari…) ; im at 82 kg still - cushion super comfy however I miss the mesh because it this one heats up much more than my mesh chair. Lumbar support is just as nice as the ergohuman chair, the head/neck rest is much more comfy for me as well on this one; as is the arm rests. The 'phone slot' under the chair is a gimmick and never used it. build quality is top notch and the chair looks much nicer (in my eyes) than my ergohuman.

Bonus addition since you're looking at the SHIOO for budget ergo chair; i bought my wife https://www.amazon.com.au/ErgoDuke-Ultra-Flex-Ergonomic-Comm… this one; cushion is comfortable even after a year; albeit she sits on it, for me I sit on it from time to time and its nice. The lumbar support is nice and present; not as much as the higher end chairs but you can't go wrong for that price point. The backrest is comfy to lean against and it feels quite heavy and sturdy for the price. (Extra plus for metal wheel base!!) I would use this chair as a daily as well for easily 2-3 years without a fault.

In my work office; I got a herman miller mirra chair. It's not bad but the backrest for me wasn't to sit back on, the mechanism of the chair was top notch though. The mesh base was nice more comfortable than my ergohuman however it sagged a bit more over the time I used it and I had it replaced (thank goodness for company inventory :D). If you can find one on FB market place second hand and decent quality, it would be a good buy!

  • I saw my local st vincent de paul store selling this same chair for $2
