What Airline / Frequent Flyer Program Do You Have Status with?

I managed to get QF platinum from a status run but finding it hard to retain (especially with the lack of deals from QF). I do find it handy for economy rewards flights though.

Do you bother with any airline statuses out there?

  • I have status with both Qantas and Velocity. Have a family of four (one baby and one toddler) - found out in a recent trip that Emirates (QF codeshare) counts anyone above 2 as an additional guest. Same with Etihad. If I'm not mistaken for Virgin and QF lounge, kids under 18 don't count.

So missus and I will now have to have status to access Emirates or other potential OneWorld lounges for the whole family - or everyone fly business.

If you have AMEX platinum, don't bother with Virgin status - you also get priority pass lounge access overseas.

I was hoping that was the link I was expecting.

  • Compass had a simple frequent flyer system in place at the time. Keep your boarding passes and it was 10 boarding passes (from memory) got you a free flight

I had status with velocity because of the reciprocal arrangement with SIA.

Haven't paid for a Qantas ticket in about 5 years, nor would i with how they treat Australians.

Will happily snag a free business rewards ticket though.

    • Do they treat Maldivians better than Australians? Asking for a mate.

  • Have QFF, Velocity and KF. Although never enough to make anything worthwhile.

I had Velocity Gold for several years when I was travelling a lot pre-Covid and it was quite nice, especially to US where partner was Delta. However I can't understand how obsessed people get with it all? You're just on a plane after all, or you're in a lounge which is mostly pretty ordinary. I certainly would never consider a 'status run', so environmentally irresponsible. Some of the trip reports on AFF are truly mind-boggling!

    • There are a lot of vain superficial beta’s around.

  • I'm Platinum with Malaysia Airlines but only for a few more weeks and then will seldom fly with them again. Only benefit was accessing the QF First Class lounges in SYD, MEL and SIN. The First Class MH lounge at KLIA was no better than a sparsely furnished IKEA cafeteria.
