They are using airbus from Sydney to Haikou then changes to Boeing 737 max for domestic trip in China. Flew once with them before. Never again. Boeing 737 the whole series have issues when landing. Big shakes!

Btw Hainan Island is a nice place to travel like Tasmania. Beautiful place and cheap and nice !

Is that a Boeing issue or an Airline issue?
      ^^

I know some airlines land harder to save on turnaround time. This may be why.

    • -3

(profanity) boeing for that, thats what happen when they hire too much indian to lower the cost.

  • Thanks OP. Any airline sales for Oct/Nov travel period?

  • +1

Keep in mind you can arrive and depart from a different city for pretty much the same price. Eg, arrive in Shanghai and depart from Guangzhou. Excellent way to avoid backtracking

    • Yes! Precisely what I came here to ask. How? Multi-city? 2 x One-way? Or buy Shanghai return, drop out of the airport in Haikou, skip the 2nd flight leg, and make the way there by train?

      • multi-city. don't skip legs.. your whole ticket gets cancelled

  • I get a sense China is doing what Japan did in the last couple of years: subsidising overseas visitors. Confirm?

Or is this drop in prices across the board bc of COVID 2.0?

    • Covid 2.0 sounds fun

    • local chinese governments been doing extreme subsidies for a long time now..

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/296153 from 2017

I don't think Japan is doing any subsidies… airfares there is pretty high. There's slot limitations which means direct flight competition is poor given the demand is huge.

      • Not sure about this year, but in 2023 I flew the family from Brisbane to Tokyo return for $412, and last year to Osaka return for $286 each. That's cheaper than flying to Melbourne most of the time!

I picked the cheapest flights available — or I'll eat my OzBargain badge! — but I remember there were promotions across the board on various airlines. It was obvious it was the Japanese taxpayer paying us to pay them a visit (and return the subsidy to their deflated tourism sector).

        • If that was Jetstar flights (with Return for free) deals.. ironically those flights are subsidized by Qld government with the intent of promoting inbound tourism

  • Hey OP.

    Dose Hainan fly to Japan?
