Yes, the FAQ says you can continue to use it from date of cancellation up to the end of your current billing cycle.

The three month offer banner was up when I signed up for my folks and when I signed up it charged me per month. After a 10 minute session with their online chat it rectified it to the offer. You're right to be wary.
