Sourcing terminals for older Ryobi batteries

Hi All, so I have some 8 year old Ryobi batteries that were still working fine, however, after 8 years of wear and tear, they have suddenly stopped working on some tools. This being the case, I assume I need new terminals. I did order some Keystone 209 that I read were supposed to be the replacement , but they are completly different.

I have attached a pic of what the terminal looks like, once disassembled. PIC UPDATED

As yet I have not found where to obtain these terminals from, and have only found 3rd party kits, which are not financially viable, and I'm buying lower grade extras I don't need.

I was hoping that one of my fellow Ozbr's had some success.

Much appreciated in advance.

    The Imgur link isn’t working

  • Yeah imgur dead bruh.
When you say 'old' do you mean pre-lithium?

    • TY. Sorry about that - Link fixed.

      2016, so should be Lithium.

What makes you think it's the terminals that is the problem? Even if it is, you could just use terminal cleaners to clean them up, and retension them.

    • The terminals show wear and tear. I can put them in another tool and they work. The tool will work okay with other batteries, so I'm confident it's the terminals

      • As I said, why not just repair them?

        • Like this

          • @BewareOfThe Dog: Have you tried bending the contacts on the tool slightly so that they apply more pressure on the battery contacts?

            • @brendanm: Since these are single sided terminals would a needle file set for about 1/4 the price do the job?

              • @mapax: I just put some solder on one of them. Despite being on 3 bars, it still wouldn't work on the air inflator (worked in my impact drill). I put it on one of the basic chargers, which topped it up to 4 bars. It worked. I then plugged it into one of my chemistry chargers, and it gave me an error, so looks like they are Fubar.

Thank you everyone, for their input, and I might buy one of the special new 5AH High performance packs at $249 with charger. (That would make about 10 chargers we have now).

@mapax: No idea, I honestly have no idea what the terminals look like in these batteries. You can get the terminal files way cheaper than the set I listed, they are just handy for doing all sorts of terminals.

  • Maybe hit the local battery drop /recycling HQ. You never know. Total Tools accepts dead batteries, so who knows maybe they have some floating around. On reflection, I'm also guessing that the Ryobi terminals on the pre Li batteries would be the same anyway. So maybe you can swap some out if you find old dead ones

  • Id be looking for dead batteries. Ive got a couple ive never got around to switching up the cells in. Was going to make one good out of 2 bad by switching out bad cells for good.

Maybe someone local has some that dont hold charge.

    • I saw some outside the 'battery bin' at Bunnings the other day.

I've read these new High performance batteries, give existing devices more boost, but aimed at 'Brushless'.

      • They probably can deliver more current, but its likely not necesary unless you are using high drain tools like a circular saw or mower. A standard drill probably doesnt need it.

        • Chainsaw?

I have definitly had issues with my Circular saw in the past, and my recipricating saw would probably work better.

As 'Toolam Tim' would say, More Power!!! :)

Worse thing is the previous model was being cleared out for less than $100 last year. :(
