Advice Needed - Buying a Refurb Legion 5 Laptop

https://www.ebay.com/itm/296937042733

~($1140)

I've spent some time researching and found this unit at what I believe it's a fairly good price for a reputable brand.
I am a very conscious spender and I guess I'm looking for validation from someone else to just buy it.
My budget was $1000 originally but it seems anything on that range is already getting old. Hopefully this will get me through the next few years.

Any insight will be appreciated (first time buying on eBay, and a gaming laptop) Thank you

  • The eBay post says to expect moderate scratches on the screen, which is the only thing keeping me. I asked for more pictures to the seller

Other units I think are not bad for the price:

    ($1097) Acer Nitro 5 (brand new, rtx3050)

($1099 on sale) Asus TUF A15 (new, 3050)

    ($1300) Acer Nitro 5 (refurbished, 4060)

Worried about overheating on the Acer Nitro. Read that undervolting helps

Why buy a used eBay laptop, that is nothing special, all the way from the USA?

IMHO you are way overthinking and overcomplicating this base model gaming laptop purchase experience.

Have you factored in the GST you may be asked to pay?

Here’s an example of a better laptop that sold recently for cheaper, and no GST risk - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/226515149329

100% avoid anything international - long and expensive shipping and would be a huge headache if you had to return it.
At you're price point, you can get a brand new low end laptop or, with a bit of searching, a second-hand mid range
Anything brand new around $1000, will be entry level specs and not great build quality.
Second hand requires a bit of research to make sure you're getting good specs for the price but can score some great deals with a bit of patience.

If you're open to second hand laptops, you check Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree for the best prices but biggest risk with no buyer protection.
For some buyers protection, eBay offers 30 day protection and Cash Converters Webstore is 90 days.
CeX offers 5 year warranty on their products

A couple of examples from CC and Cex:
    - Infinity Q16-7A-406-1M AMD Ryzen 7 7735Hs RTX 4060 for $1099
    - Alienware M15 R7/Ryz 7 6800H/16GB RAM/512GB SSD/RTX 3060/15"165Hz/W11/A for $1160

    Good luck

    • Cash Converters have pretty good prices

I might just go with this one. Read the TUF series is not that bad and most temperature issues can be solved with GHelper and tweaking fan modes.
$1000 for a 4050 6gb is definitely the best deal I've found so far

TUF is ok. Better than most other budget range options.
But I would recommend the Infinity RTX 4060 8GB Infinity I linked above for a bit extra

The Infinity seems too good to be true and coming from CashConverters now it makes me hesitate a bit.
I'll call them in the morning and see if they can tell me anything about its previous use Thank you

I see this is your first experience purchasing from cash converters.

I finally decided to go for a Lenovo LOQ Gen 9 (Ryzen 7 7435hs, 4060) for $1400. Brand new with a year of warranty.
I feel pretty confident with my purchase and is in part thanks to all of your comments. I might post that 4060 Infinity for $1000 on the Deals topic, maybe someone else will be interested.
