Please go easy on me.
Activation key is shipped only, no email. Standard postage was $17 to VIC.
Seems to be a much better price compared to the other authorised resellers, sitting around the $450 mark.

I love this wholesomeness. God bless y’all!
Note: You can also get the Speed Editor keyboard (which includes a DaVinci Resolve Studio licence) for $573:
https://www.videopro.com.au/product/blackmagic-davinci-resol…
price from 5 years ago though
should also be noted that all subsequent updates on DaVinci Resolve Studio are FREE
**so far
The CEO of the company hates subscription type software so you'll never see that. As for the free updates I'm pretty confident they will continue to be free.
It still blows my mind ive had two major upgrades and paid nothing
Da Vinci can be registered on two machines. Just saying.
How is this different from the free version you can download?
The free version has feature limits. You try to use it, such as auto subtitles or whatever it is called, and a popup appears telling you to upgrade. There are certain functionalities disabled in the free version.
I also think you need the paid version for 4K editing.
Yeah and GPU rendering. People should Google it to see the difference.
The free version allows up to 4K 60hz. The limitation was eased.
HEVC YUV 422 video will need a Studio licence, but you can convert it to Pro-res 422 and then process it in the free version.
The free version is very capable by itself, but the Studio version adds a number of features and unlocks some limits. e.g., higher resolution outputs (the free version limits to 4K), more video encoding options, hardware acceleration, certain effects and utilities.
A quick Google will return a number of articles laying out all the details.
The free version is excellent, but the Studio version is very reasonably priced, especially when you consider it’s for life and you get free updates.
Well said, its pretty amazing what you can do in the free version tbh great place for anyone to start out but as you get more into the editing, you'll find increasing barriers that make the paid version well worth it.
its also a lot cheaper
For those who use Linux, other than the differences mentioned by others which apply to Windows/MacOS users, the Linux paid version allows the use of video files which are not in DNxHD I.e. the Linux paid version can directly handle MPG and MOV files which come out of your camera.
Yes, that's right, the free Linux version of DaVinci Resolve won't use free MPG decoders, forcing users of the 'free' Linux DaVinci Resolve to convert all video files to DNxHD format. Which both takes time, and a lot of storage space!
They pay walled Noise Reduction which has plagued me ever since my agency stopped using Resolve….
Free version doesn't have magic mask.
Been waiting for DaVinci Resolve Studio to go on Humble Bundle for cheap, but that may never happen.
Hugely doubt that. I've found most humble bundle items end up as shovelware or indicative of an upgraded full priced version around the corner
I got Pinnacle Studio 23/24 for cheap on Humble Bundle a few years ago.
You can currently get Vegas Edit 21 & Movie Studio 2024 on Humble Bundle for under $50.
https://www.humblebundle.com/software/vegas-pro-2024-softwar…
VEGAS Pro 21 isn't too bad for $50
You won't see that, ever. Just like Premiere or Final Cut, DaVinci is in another league compared to what Humble Bundle usually offers.
Any opinion on differences between this and FCP?
Both are great but Resolve has better colour correction and grading abilities. I found coming from Premiere Pro, Resolve more intuitive.
Resolve 1,000,000x better for me. Depends on workflow too though.
So tempting, I always wanted it simply for hardware acceleration, but the last time I edited a video has been years…please OzBargain lords show me the way. Should I really spend $380 for something I won't immediately use and/or use regularly..
Maybe $190?
I understand this reference.
Are you proposing dual custody?
I'm on the same boat, thinking whether I will ever utilise the extra features.
Depends how much you use it? But the gpu rendering is something that brings it to another league. I had some time i was making plenty of youtube videos, and some quick edits, titling etc. Openshot, dvedit, bunch of others that were usually freeware and stuff. The rendering time was annoying, especially if doing 4k. Software rendering could get to maybe 1:1 speed?
Well with a 3070, it renders at 4x speed. That makes a huge difference when you're in a rush to make a clip and its more than a few minutes long. A few times when you render and mess something up, go through that render loop again… it annoys you less. Its very worth it as long as you were going to do it.
If you haven't edited a video in years … why not use the free version of DaVinci Resolve instead? It has many, many of the features of the paid version of Resolve, is considerable overkill for the casual video editor user and is actually an amazing product for software which can be used for free.
Yeah I've always praised blackmagic for offering such a complete package for free. I've only ever used the free version in the past and always found myself wanting hardware acceleration while editing in the timeline instead of having to use proxies, especially when I was doing some colour work. I think ultimately I'd render the final product with the CPU anyway as I always found I got better quality to size ratios using it, even if it takes 6x longer.
I guess I'd be purchasing it it on the off chance that I ever need to do a project again. It helps that it feels like a lifetime + upgrades license, even though they could stop doing that. But I think $380 is a bit steep for a maybe…maybe
One more step to finally ridding myself of Adobe. Only one boss remains.
Get the keyboard, it makes the editing so much better and quicker - plus the licence
This or FCP for $299 with Logic Pro?
I'd love to use Resolve for its superior colour grading capabilities compared to Premiere Pro, but a lot of my workflow involves content creation in Photoshop and After Effects. Dynamically linking those into Premiere is something I can't give up
Will the 1.3% cash back from Cashrewards work for this?
dont see why not - Ive just placed an order via Cashrewards and if it doesnt track Ill be lodging a ticket
If anyone has bought Blackmagic gear and doesn't need their key, plz message me :)
Same!
Good product. Made in Melb too.
Made in Melb too.
Got Studio about 6 months ago for $420. Worth every penny. Made me get back into Video editing editing after years of issues with Adobe Premier and After FX
dont forget Cash rewards.. got $6.77 back on the Speed editor package
The price now appears to be $425.
Back to normal price from Videopro by the looks of it. That's it with the temptation.
