Any Deals on the Lenovo Legion Y700 Tablet?

Previous deals here but nothing recent
I believe this is basically the best quality tablet in the <10inch range (This one is 8.8")

The 12GB rom version is $530AU inc GST Aliexpress

But it has been as low as $400au delivered, and this is OzB so common I can't pay $530! lol
I believe there may be a 2025 version with slightly improved processor (?) but price is $880 so a lot more

Questions
Any reason to think price comes down or it goes on sale soon?
Is it worth paying an extra $100 for the 16GB version?
If you have this tablet, could you recommend?

Thanks all - appreciate advice

  • I am on the same boat with a small sized tablet.

    my few cents:

    1. More RAM probably won't do much for now, but it'd last maybe 1-2 more years (if hardware didn't fail otherwise)

    2. 8Gen1 + processor(what 2023 model use) is pretty strong, unless you are playing a cutting edge game, it more than good enough… for day to day apps… I'd be surprised that 8gen1+ will not be good enough before hardware fails(battery degradation, screen burnout, dropped and broken, etc) and by the time 8gen1+ is not good enough for day to day task, 8gen3 is not gonna play much better either.

    3. I personally won't buy Lenovo tablet anymore, because I got bite hard recently on a lenovo duet chromeOS tablet —- the touch screen would trigger without touch randomly —- right after 1 year warranty.

    4. I've heard from different reviewers saying small quirks and UI bugs etc on Lenovo/Android OS, I doubt this is anything major, but I'd prefer to have a tablet from a better manufacturer — Oppo(OnePlus), Xiaomi, Vivo, etc.

    5. a reputable Chinese leaker rumored some manufacturer gonna make a new 8.8 inch tablet with 8gen3 SoC (some other rumor said it's either Oppo or Xiaomi), so I've been holding off.

    • Thanks for reply
Agree on the Ram = future proof - but 12gb is still good
I didn't google the specs presume even 8Gen 1 is good and a step up from my current
It's hard to find a manuf who makes all hits, most make a few models that are lemons
I understand not wanting to give Lenovo your $$ again
I would love an Oppo and currently have a Xiaomi Mi Pad
Someone is always bringing out something new but gee I wish there was more competition for this size/form factor
Surely the success of the iPad Mini should inspire more copycats!

      • Agree on the Ram = future proof - but 12gb is still good

        Definitely good, for now.
Back when I bought my phone, there's option to buy either 8G or 12G, I bought the 12G variant, and it turns out my average memory use is about 9GB now. I know that Android use part of the RAM as cache, and can clear out for other app, 8GB would be just enough anyway. But on the other hand, you can also argue 8GB is on the edge, and would shorten my phone's lifespan by quite a bit.

But on the other hand, if the upgrade is too expensive, you could argue something like: "this cost me 30% more of the tablet's value, and I could just save the 30% and upgrade to a new tablet 1 year early" YMMV

I understand not wanting to give Lenovo your $$ again

35% because I got a faulty lenovo tablet. 65% because their OS is on the rough side. and IMO software > hardware at all time. You only need "just good enough" on the hardware, but you are interacting with software the whole time, it's gonna get annoying.

Surely the success of the iPad Mini should inspire more copycats!

well there wasn't much competition for the entire lifespan of iPad Mini 6, and there still isn't much with iPad Mini 7. The market has been dry for like 4 years already.
The only other hope except lenovo we got, is the rumor from that Chinese leaker, but I still suggest wait a tiny bit —— the y700 isn't on special anyway.
