Been holding off until these went on sale. Too many pedestrians with headphones on.

The World's loudest cycle horn. 140dB at source the dB140 puts you in control of your safety because it gives you a way to make people know you’re there even when they aren’t looking.
Two horn modes. “piercing mode” is a high-pitched 140db duo tone, primarily for road use, designed to be heard by car, van and truck drivers as well as pedestrians with headphones. “horn mode” is a 121dB car horn style sound designed to be used to warn pedestrians in parks and on trails.
Two handlebar mounts included. to ensure a perfect fit with all handlebar sizes two mounts are included-one mount for bars with a diameter of 22-26mm with 4 differently sized spacers and a second dedicated to 31.8mm diameter bars (road bikes).
Enjoy the ride. the dB140 gives you the ability to let other road users know you’re coming and that alone makes cycling much less stressful. No more shouting, fewer emergency stops, and more time spent enjoying the ride.
The small, sleek, and completely weatherproof horn weighs only 3.6 ounces (including mount, trigger, and batteries). 2 x AAA batteries included which last up to 12 months with normal use (normal use is 6 x 1 second blasts per day).

  • FYI you need to link to the product, not to the image. Thumbnail images are automatically generated so you don't need to create one yourself. I've fixed up the url now.

    • Thank you! First time poster and using my phone not PC. Cheers

There are also Chinese copies much cheaper.
But most importantly, it is loud but it sounds like fire or intruder alarm, not like a bicycle bell or a car horn. So often people don't understand what the sound is and where it is coming from.
If you ride on the footpath and want to get around pedestrians a bell will work better.

I just watched a YouTube video on it and I know what you mean. I had an instance this morning I was using my bell on a shared path and this one person had no idea I was 1m from them, headphones in and completely disconnected from the world.

    • Yep, my experience exactly. As loud as it is, people are much more receptive to a bell than this horn when I come up to two people side by side on a shared path.

  • Agreed. Have a couple electronic ones with various sci fi sounds that people just don't react too. Nothing works like the sound of a bell. But cannot locate an electronic bell noise unit.

Can anyone recommend a decent bell that sounds like a bell?

    • A Crane E-ne Brass bells. Note that the brass has a better sound than the alloy versions.

BUCKLOS Retro Copper Bell $9.19 + GST, free postage if you spend over $15.
It's the classic single loud bell sound, really well built, when I ring this bell pedestrians move to the left of the path and stand in single file!

    Because cyclists aren't hated enough.
This is not a great deal. Using one of these is just going to antagonise pedestrians.
    Stick to a normal bell.

I use it for cars that try to kill me

Horns won't help in that situation anyway - it doesn't even help when car drivers use their horn against other car drivers so why do you think it would help a cyclist?

If anything, it may just lead to road rage (like when a car driver uses their horn against another driver), especially in a situation where a car driver can use their multi-tonne metal box as an intimidating weapon against the cyclist.

        • +2

It does help. Many people who run you off the road do it because they don't know you're there. This makes you known. The better solution will never happen.

I used to have an airzound on my bike. I used to call it Moses. It would work 100% off the time. You can use it from further away giving pedestrians more notice. You can use on headphone wearing pedestrians, and it works just as well on people in cars. Only disadvantage is the 500g weight

    • I’ll be keeping my normal bell for pedestrians that can hear it. If not, I have my back up horn!

I agree - a weird sounding artificial electronic siren that scares the crap out of people, while tempting at times (for morons) is just going to annoy people (badly). A pedestrian who gets a sudden fright is likely to do unpredictable things - like jump in front of the bike.

      Bad idea.
