TCL C855 Vs LG C4

Alot of youtube comparison videos for these two..

I'm looking for a 65 inch option, and give or take on special there is around $1,000 price difference.

Surprisingly, in all the comparison videos i've watched the C855 is very highly rated - especially sound.

Caveat is I won't be using a sound bar/sound system so will be relying on the tv's native speakers so this is definitely a consideration. The TV will be used in a room with alot of natural daylight

I'm not a videophile, I am just looking for a good overall performer that will work well with 4K netflix, Foxtel 4K Footy, general HD Foxtel & FTA..

Anything else that I need to be aware of?

I've currently got a Hisense Q8 and overall i'm pretty happy with it's picture/sound quality but I am assuming that either one of the TV's listed above will be a step up?

  • LG all day, no need to compare to TCL tbh.

C855 will be better in a brighter room. You should get a soundbar or bookshelf speakers at a minimum. OLEDs don't get that bright so can appear dim in bright rooms.

    I have a LGB8 since 2019.

Given $1k difference I'd punt with the C855.

I Was going to get a C855 75 incher (around 2k) but a Sony 7 75inch miniled came up at 2.5k so sprang for it.

    C855 is a cracker of a TV.

If they were priced the same i'd go the LG, however in this case i'd go the C855

I also have a Hisense Q8 and it's going strong, just miss the Android operating system.

OLED fans won't be happy, but C855 seems like the much better choice for your situation.

I have a 65" LG OLED, which looks great in my darkened lounge. But I have seen the C855, and was blown away by the quality of the image. The brightness is also very impressive. For a well-lit room, the C855 would definitely be better, due to high brightness and being less reflective. The OLED will have higher colour accuracy, which is great if you're watching 4k blu-rays, but for your use case the C855 definitely sounds more appropriate.

I have a 98” TCL C855 in the lounge room and a 55” LG C4 in the gaming room.

I’ve not tested the TV speakers on either TV as I could never justify spending that sort of money for a high-end TV just to skimp out on audio…

If your room is bright, get the C855 and spend the difference on a Sonos Beam Gen 2 or equivalent. Depends on your window orientation the C4 (~950 nits) may be a ‘need to close the blinds’ scenario. The C855 will never be that. Even with direct sunlight on the TV - it’s 3500 nits!

You mentioned not being a videophile so I doubt you have the interest in babysitting an OLED panel. The C855 will be brighter and cheaper and is honestly a damn great TV.

If you want me to test something specific for you, let me know. Acknowledging that the sizes are a little different to what you’re considering.

Note, the TCL owners forum hasn’t raised and panel variations (yet?). But the C4 has known panel variations, Rtings managed to get an overly green panel that LG said was within tolerance… https://youtu.be/A-99FVgO7nY?si=xRmDcfFuW6oHUMaq

Edit: a quick note on the in-built speakers:
    - 65” C4 = 40W total
    - 65” C855 = 60W total

    • Brilliant, appreciate your feedback. How does the C855 handle sport? I'm specifically keen on the footy which I like to watch on 4K on Foxtel/ or 7HD…

I just tested Kayo for the AFL Grand Final. The viewport was 4K but the stream was only 1080p. Sorry, I don’t have Foxtel.

The quality was fine on the Sports picture setting with the Motion Clarity (Judder and Blurring) turned down. Naturally, the ball was a tad juddery when in a panning shot but it was not distracting and I doubt anyone will notice it. My wife said the picture looked great.

I imagine 4K Foxtel will look much better.

I tried to test some AO on channel 9HD but couldn’t find any.

I’ve watched a little sport outside this test and been happy with the performance. Usually I am picky. But this handles everything better than my previous 85” Sony X950G.

        • Thanks for checking.. and for your feedback, much appreciated.
