Are these any good for Nintendo Switch?

    • +1

Likely the only viable choice for 1TB on NS (and the upcoming NS2)

Though Samsung white one was a bit cheaper in the past.

I have the 512GB version for the Steamdeck and it works well. I'm gonna upgrade to this one, thanks OP!

Pretty sure these are overkill for the steam deck-

"The Steam Deck can read up to about 100 MB/s.

SanDisk Extreme Plus (red/gold) delivers ~100 MB/s read, 90 MB/s write, pretty much topping out the Deck's micro sd slot.

      The Extreme (also red/gold) does 160 MB/s read, 90 MB/s write.

The Extreme Pro (red/black) manages 170-300 MB/s read, 90-260 MB/s write, depending on type. The UHS-I is slower than UHS-II. Still, both are overkill for the Deck.

So all three are mostly the same when writing, the Extreme Plus just about matches the Deck's maximum read speed, while the Extreme (maybe to be on the safe side for sure) and the Extreme Pro (especially the UHS-II variant) would both be overkill. Also depends on price, of course. If the difference is miniscule, you can opt for the higher rated card."

Thanks for the helpful info. Just to add that this Extreme Pro is about the same price than the Extreme anyway at the moment, even in deal posts the Extreme was only $137.99. Even a lesser Ultra is $131.59 atm.

      • I upgraded from a 256GB Ultra to 1TB Extreme Pro on the Switch and saw faster load times.

  • Getting 2 x 512GB is cheaper?

    • +7

      Nah get 125 x 8GB, lot cheaper

      • -3

Not very practical though swapping 125 cards?

Speaking from experience, getting two 512gb is better in the event of card malfunction during usage, and it's cheaper. Did a trip with only one SD card before, and lost quite a bit of footage and opportunities.

Where do you buy 125GB cards?

  • I just bought a Kingston card that was rated for 170mb write for my Osmo 5.

Anyone have this and used a 4K action cam? I've been recording at 4K/24 with RS+ on. My older card struggled with slow recording and wouldn't record more than 2 mins.

    • I have the 512GB one and had no issues with my Osmo

  • Got one, thanks OP!

Still waiting for reasonably priced 2TB for my switch

  • +1

Price went up to $179.99 now?

  • goes down when you pick ultra

    • +1

OPs deal is for the Extreme PRO

    • +1

The Ultra 1TB is only $11.17c less than the Extreme Pro 1TB deal price, but the Ultra is lower rated at only U1 & A1 instead of the U3/V30 & A2 of the Extreme Pro.

  • Is the difference between this and nvme ssd's speed and bandwidth? Like you'd never use sd cards as a replacement ssd right

    • You use SDs and microSDs on devices where you have to because that's the socket the device has got on it.

You use NVMe SSDs where you can because they are cheaper, a lot faster and more reliable. You can even label them on the back to say what's on them.

Where you can use an NVMe SSD you'd be crazy to use an SD or microSD. Its time manufacturers of devices started migrating to sockets for 2230 NVMe SSDs. Even in x1 mode they are way way faster than an SD or microSD.

  • There was a Samsung Evo Select 1TB from Amazon US for like $120 up until very recently.

What gives with the prices of high capacity MicroSDs lately, though? I recall buying a Lexar Play 1TB on Amazon during boxing day sales of 2023 for $88. I thought memory cards only tended to get cheaper with time..
